Steam Yacht Gondola (NT) Gondola sails daily from Easter until the end of October. See website for timetable. Sailings run to 31st October in 2021.

'Gondola' is a beautifully rebuilt Victorian steam powered passenger yacht sailing on Coniston Water in the Lake District. It has been a very busy time, and a huge shout out to the team for all their hard work. Gondola was hauled out of the water last Monday, the frame went up on Tuesday, the crane lifted the funnel, life rafts and bridge off on Wednesday, and the cover was finished by Thursday, just in time before Storm Darragh hit. Thanks to Duddon hire - lakeland ltd for their assistance with the lifting.

The cover gives Gondola and the crew some protection from the elements whilst carrying out winter maintenance. The funnel and other pieces will now undergo cleaning, condition checking and maintenance at our yard.

We close down for Christmas at the end of this week but check back soon for more updates!

⚙️ 2024 Haul out 🛠️

Better late than never! After completing essential engine repairs in November the Gondola Crew & Volunteers this week have completed the mammoth job of manually hauling Gondola out of the water for the next part of our winter maintenance.

A massive thank you to the Gondola Crew & Volunteers for their amazing efforts in hauling out our historic vessel.

Steam Yacht Gondola will close down for the season on Monday 4 November. Don't miss the last chance to sail in 2024.

📍Full Lake Cruise @ 13:45 for 1 hour 40 minutes

All sailings depart from Coniston Pier.

The 2024 UK Maritime Heritage Forum took place at the National Maritime Museum Cornwall, home of the National Small Boat Collection, from 2 – 4 October. This year’s Forum reviewed the role of museums in Britain’s Coastal Experience: from small boats to the politics of contemporary collecting.

Julian Blatchley, Manager of the Steam Yacht Gondola, took to the podium at the event to deliver a presentation talking not only about Gondola’s technology, but of the people, crew and former Captains of Gondola.

Delegates enjoyed other informative speaker sessions from museum professionals and academics working within the maritime heritage sector, addressing the themes of coastal communities and coastal resilience, as well as new narratives around interpreting the sea and the challenges of maritime heritage conservation.

Have you seen our amazing new jetty at Coniston ? 🪚🛠️

We’d like to say a massive Thank You to Jetties and Moorings for their hard work and swiftness in building our new jetty.

We’d also like to continue by thanking Brantwood for the use of their jetty while we were out of action. To our colleagues at the Coniston Tourist Information Centre, you do a great job and are always so helpful.

And the Gondola team for their flexibility with our changing operating times. The crew and volunteers have kept the Gondola sailing so that everyone could still enjoy a cruise in September

Gondola is now sailing 6 days a week (Closed on Fridays!) until the end of the season from our fantastic new jetty. Do come along and admire it before your sail. Choose from:

Thank You to everyone who came along and took part in our special tours. We hope you discovered more about our unique Victorian Steam Yacht and her illustrious career on Coniston Water.

Enjoy a free tour of the gorgeous Victorian steam-powered passenger yacht, Gondola, which has sailed on Coniston Water since 1859.
Learn more about our unique National Historic Vessel and her long history as a visitor attraction and enjoy a short demonstration of her manoeuvrability on the water.
