Newyddion/News Japanese Day Of Peace

🎉 What an incredible event! We are delighted to share that the event was a resounding success. The Mayor of Conwy, Cllr Janette Hughes was in attendance and the council provided a stunning exhibition of Castle twinning documents and beautiful pictures of Himeji Castle. 🏰✨

The family open day at St. Mary’s Church, Conwy, was filled with joy and learning in observance of the Japanese Day for Peace and the anniversary of Hiroshima. Highlights included:
🎨 Traditional Japanese arts and craft workshops
🗣️ Engaging in Japanese language and Haiku demonstrations
🕊️ The inspiring developing Origami Cranes exhibition
🎧 An immersive listening experience of Alison Lock’s poem ‘The Gift’ set to Hazel Sturt’s meditative cello composition
A special shoutout to those who donated cakes for the refreshments stand.
There was a lovely mention in a blog by poet Wendy Dosset, who beautifully captured the essence of the Cranes installation. Her insights truly reflect the message for peace. Read more here: https://www.wedossett.com/post/poems

It will be held this special event on the 6th of August at St. Mary’s church in Conwy. That day is the anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. Conwy Castle and Himeji castle are twined. We would like to celebrate our relationship between Wales and Japan also to send a message of peace to the world. Please come to join us 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇯🇵

We are starting on improvements to drainage on B5106, as part of our Trefriw flood alleviation scheme. Our first site is at Little Canada, where we will install a larger culvert under the road.

Please follow the diversion.
🚌 The Llew Jones Coaches 19 bus service will continue to visit Trefriw (as far as Memorial/Woollen Mill), but will not travel through to Dolgarrog. A shuttle bus will take passengers from Dolgarrog (Graham Road) to meet the 19 service at Tyn-y-Groes.

CRANES OF PEACE
Join us at one of our public workshops this April and contribute to this exciting community arts project, which both celebrates Conwy’s twinning with Himeji in Japan, and acts as a call for peace in an increasingly volatile world.
The workshops will take place at Pensychnant Conservation Centre, where participants will learn how to make these beautiful origami peace cranes, which will then be displayed in St. Mary's Church for the summer visiting season. Get in touch now to book your place!

We had a great festive lunch at Royal Oak Hotel in Betws-y-Coed today. Royal Oak Hotel is less than 5 minutes walk from Swn-y-Dwr. They serve fantastic food with local produce and always give us 5🌟 friendly service!
