All around Corwen you’ll find images of Owain Glyndwr with the most impressive being the statue in the town centre.
Owain Glyndŵr, also known as Owain Glyn Dŵr or Owain ap Gruffudd, was a Welsh nobleman and military leader who lived in the late 14th and early 15th centuries. He is best known for leading a Welsh revolt against English rule during the early 15th century, with the goal of establishing an independent Welsh principality. Owain Glyndŵr’s rebellion, known as the Glyndŵr Rising, began around 1400 and continued for several years, gaining support from various Welsh factions.
He is considered a national hero in Welsh history for his efforts to assert Welsh sovereignty. His ultimate fate remains uncertain, as he disappeared from historical records, but his legacy endures in Welsh culture and folklore.

Did you know….. While our guests are playing this brilliant game in our games room ⚽️ Table football, originated in the late 19th century. The exact origins of the game are somewhat disputed, with several European countries claiming to have invented it. However, the most commonly accepted story is that it was invented in 1921 by Harold Searles Thornton, a British man who was looking for a way to replicate the excitement of football in a tabletop game. Thornton’s version of the game, which he called “football in miniature”, quickly caught on and became popular in Europe and beyond. Today, table football is enjoyed by millions of people around the world and is even played competitively in tournaments and leagues. #ukholidays #welshholiday #football #footballgames #holidaycottage
