Maximising Post Workouts.
A number of biochemical processes occur on the cellular level during hard training. These include damage to muscle fibres and the depletion of muscle glycogen. An inflammatory response also occurs, which often leads to delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS). But the point of active recovery is to maximize the positive effects and minimize the negative effects of this muscle damage and inflammatory response. Recovery drinks containing both carbs and protein including branched-chain amino acids can help maximize both performance and recovery.

After an amazing year Becky and Howard Lewis describe the role I played within their achievements.

Having known Dave since 2001, we were confident that his coaching style and methods would help take our racing to the next level. So in 2015/2016, we embarked on our training journey with him, and have now literally "achieved our dreams".

Dave has been 100% committed to us during our time with him. Coaching is not just a job to him - it is his passion and way of life. He lives and breathes the sport, and this has transferred to the way he has worked with us.

Dave's training plans are challenging, but well thought through. He provides explanations for each session, to help us understand the purpose of what we are doing. He studies our sessions on Garmin Connect, analysing all components of the data in fine detail. Then he shares his comments with us, which are always constructive. He gives praise where praise is due, and tactful advice for future sessions when things haven't quite gone to plan. He understands the demands of "real life", and that raising a young family and working shifts can sometimes disrupt training. He is encouraging and supportive, and we have learnt more from him in the last year than we have learnt in the last 15 years put together.

The only thing Dave can't do for you is the painful bit - the actual training! But if you are fully committed to your goal, then Dave will help you get there. With Dave's guidance, we have achieved more in 2016 than we had ever dared to believe was possible. Stopping the watch on 18:01 when we crossed the line in our first record-breaking tandem time trial was an emotional experience that neither of us will ever forget. And... if someone had told me a few years ago that I would take 2 national medals in 2016 - a bronze in the "50", and a silver in the hill climb - I would have said they were crazy!!!

Dave did more than give us a plan. He gave us the belief that we could achieve, and he was there every step (or pedal rev) of the way. Thank you, Dave. You are a star.

Superb!!! My super star athlete Becky Lewis claims silver in the national hill climb championships on Bank Rd, Matlock. One very proud coach indeed.

Becky finished the season with 3rd in the National 50 mile tt, 2nd in the National hill climb and two new competition records for 10 and 50 mile mixed tandem time trials with husband Howard who I also coach.
