Cowes is now a serious foodie destination. Things moved up a gear when the Smoking Lobster Cowes opened on the site of the Tiffins sandwich shop and then expanded to open their Mediterranean brasserie in Foresters Hall . Then at Christmas former Royal Hotel Ventnor head chef Matt Egan opened the doors to House Cowes and brought Mixologist Max from The Hut to run the bar. Now Robert Thompson's favourite chef on the island Alex Kimber is bringing www.heroniow.co.uk to the prime Gastronomy site in Cowes High Street.
Alex worked at Wimbledon as a Sous chef then came to the Island 3 years ago and built The Cottage in Shanklin earning rave reviews and accolades.
During lockdown Alex and Laura re-evaluated their situation which lead to the opening of Heron in Ryde. Dishes at Heron are based on locally sourced and seasonal produce to create high quality fine dining meals.
Cowes locals and visitors are now spoilt for choice! We haven't event touched on the array of pubs, cafes, bars, fish and chip shops, pizzerias and Indian restaurants not to mention all the yacht clubs...
The Camber, being located in the old town, is the perfect base for a foodie weekend break or holiday.

About us

The house was our home for many years (Richard, Rowena, our two children Charlie and Alex and Forest the mud-loving spaniel). In 2018 we moved to the mainland for work and we miss the Isle of Wight every day!

Having initially let the house on a long term tenancy we decided to switch to holiday lettings so we can still use the house for winter weekends and for the odd week in summer. Of course we chose the wrong year to start a holiday business as we lost half the first season to lockdown but the house is now finally ready.

It is a light and airy Georgian town house in the historic centre of Cowes, yards from all the quirky independent shops, bars and restaurants. A great and central base from which to explore the rest of the Isle of Wight.
