🐝 Happy World Bee Day! 🌼 Exciting news from our hives - we're welcoming a new queen bee soon! After our first hive inspection at the start of April we knew we had to act fast. The colony had grown considerably and the hive was full. Their swarm sense was strong as we found multiple supersedure cells in the brood box and plenty of drone cells. We decided to perform a shook swarm and split the hive into two to make room for the bees and prevent a swarm.
The new virgin queen will emerge within a couple of days and the quest for a name for our new regal newcomer continues! Our original queen, Mel Bee is continuing to do well after the big move.

In 2022 we moved our management fleet to all electric! 🌿🔌 We have now successfully installed 4 new chargers, taking our total to 7, at our Head Office and dedicated parking spaces for EVs, as part of our commitment to a greener future. We have more electrifying news to come! 🌟

We’re extremely excited to be involved in the habitat enhancement project at our local apiary in Wilmslow.

Thanks to BeeEducated working with members of our team, we now have our own beekeeper and this project is our chance to give back to the BeeEducated group and the surrounding community by enhancing their apiary.

As it stands, their apiary is in a sorry state. A square area of grassland that is overrun by w**ds and bramble. Using reclaimed and recycled materials that have been kindly donated by the local community, we’ll be creating bases for the hives with a solid working platform for each and a pathway around the perimeter of the apiary. We’ll then use a mixture of wildflower seed, grasses and carefully selected native shrubbery to provide the bees with a much more diverse selection of pollen to forage and improved shelter all year round.

When we heard that Lower Moss Wood needed help we couldn't just sit back and do nothing. Knowing how important their work is in the community, we visited site to assess the tree then returned to dismantle it and clear the area.
The classrooms are now back open and life can return to normal.
A massive thank you to Matt, our tree surgeon, and Gavin, our Head of Environmental Services, for organising everything. Great work team!

UK Landscapes had a great day at the sunny, but very windy, Northwich Pop Up Jobs Fair today. Organised by Northwich Job Centre and The Work Zone we got to meet lots of potential candidates for our vacancies who were only too happy to play our Put The PPE On Teresa (our lovely mannequin helper), and Guess The Weeds games! We handed out goody bags and had an all round good time.
The next one is at Winsford Cross Shopping Centre on Thursday 26th May. It would be great to see you there.

Last week UK Landscapes was pleased to be able to donate £3000 of medical supplies to the relief efforts in Ukraine via our local collection hub, Glebe Farm in Congleton. Our staff and contractors were keen to get involved too and raised £420 to be sent to UNICEF. The plight of the Ukrainian people has touched all of our hearts and we were only too happy to do our bit.

Despite all of the planned events being cancelled due to the current Covid - 19 pandemic, Luke has carried on with his monthly running challenge to raise money for Brainwave, a charity close to UKL's hearts. These photos are from his latest run - an alternative to the Leeds half marathon that took him along the Biddulph Valley from Congleton towards Stoke and back. 13.47 miles in 2 hours and 13 minutes. Well done Luke!

Well COVID-19 might be slowly bringing the world to a standstill but its not stopping Luke from carrying out his running challenge. Unfortunately but understandably, this weekend's marathon in Bedford has had to be postponed but Luke is going to run the distance in the deserted wooded and parkland areas near where he lives. We'll let you know how he got on next week.
