Amazing aurora this weekend! I managed to sleep through it but luckily lots of guests were more on the ball and got these great shots on Friday night πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’š

Wytch Wood has very low levels of light pollution at 0.25-0.5 nano watts/cmΒ²/sr - the second darkest level according to the cpre.org.uk light pollution dark skies map. So it's great for stargazing even without an astronomical event!

Thanks to our camper John Spradbery for the brilliant photos πŸ“Έ

Happy international women's day πŸ’š I've spent most it on the digger, moving some stone and making pathways, and the rest doing campsite admin. I value my independence hugely and love being able to take the opportunity to develop new skills and take on new challenges.

Growing up competing horses - where men and women always compete on equal terms, instilled an expectation of equality that has always stayed with me. I'll always be unashamedly feminist and believe that your ambitions should never be constrained by your gender.

Days like this remind me that I'm incredibly privileged to have so much freedom and so many choices - in my work, independence, politics, relationships, beliefs - so many things that I take for granted as fundamental rights but which are unobtainable or simply denied to so many women in the world. My thoughts are with women everywhere, whatever your struggles, you're valued and you got this πŸ’š

As the sun sets today we enter Samhain and pass into the darkest phase of the year. The midpoint between the autumn equinox and winter solstice marks the start of the Celtic new year - a time for reflection and remembrance.

Marked in so many cultures under different guises, it's widely considered a time when the veils between worlds are at their thinnest. All is quiet on the site now as the vigour of summer growth dies back, and the land retreats into it's winter livery. Despite that, you can feel the echoes of all the joy this place brings to those who stay. Perhaps you could call it the spirit of this place ✨

We're having a quiet one at Wytch Wood this year - not a pumpkin in sight! We'll be reflecting on what a wonderful year it has been with you all and feeling grateful for being able to live and work in this magical little pocket of Somerset countryside. As we sip a drink and light a fire, we'll be looking forward to what the next 12 months will bring.

REVIEW - QUEEN OF CUPS, GLASTONBURY

Now we're closed for the season, we've got a bit more time on our hands! So we're going to be out and about trying places in the local area so that we can recommend them to our guests.

Our first recommendation is one we've wanted to try since we saw them picking up prizes on awards night at last year's . We went today and were not disappointed - It's the brilliant restaurant in Glastonbury.

Slightly outside our usual 15 mile radius for suppliers, it's still under an hour's drive away and can easily be added to your Somerset itinerary.

A 17th century coaching Inn, turned modern middle Eastern restaurant, QoC have been picking up a host of awards in recent years. Featuring ethically sourced local, seasonal ingredients they create exciting, colourful - and delicious middle Eastern sharing plates.

We went for the Queen's feast, meat option - priced at Β£32.50 per person. You get to try around 2/3rds of the menu served tapas-style. We gobbled everything put in front of us - starting with house pickles, hummus, labneh and frenah bread (fluffy, crispy, incredible). Followed up with Lebanese potatoes (so moreish and great with left over labneh), merguez sausages and grilled nabulsi cheese with black honey and preserved lemon (take a bit of all together for the perfectly balanced bite). And finally the braised beef and fig dish - subtly spiced and delicious. The sharing menu gives you the satisfaction of trying everything - no Fomo! The textures, flavours and presentation combine for a beautifully balanced, expertly spiced and incredibly satisfying experience.

Sitting by the pass was great as you get to watch executive chef and co-owner Ayesha Kalaji put the finishing touches to each pretty plate of food. It also made us vow to go back and try the vegan sharing menu!

We spent Β£80 total and had 2 sharing menus, one drink each and a speciality tea each. And were stuffed! Team were friendly and welcoming, managing to squeeze us in without a booking (oops).

Our advice is: book ahead and go hungry, you won't be disappointed. Really unique in our area

TRASH TALK We are starting some tips for having a greener camping trip. And this time we admit we are talking a load of rubbish!

We go through all bags of rubbish left by guests (which is as gross as it sounds) to make sure as much as possible is recycled or composted. It's especially frustrating when you pick up a bag and you hear the clink of glass - Let's be honest, a glass bottle is pretty easy to separate!

To make it easier to recycle and cut down waste, we have a number of facilities for guests to use and some top tips for making your stay a bit greener

1️⃣ Each pitch now has its own food waste bin and recycling collection tub. We are trying to make it as easy as possible to separate your rubbish (main photo) and bring it over to the recycling area
2️⃣ Communal fridge and freezer for ice packs. To help cut down the fridge is there to help keep fresh food cold and to keep your cold box cool and prevent food spoiling and wastage
3️⃣ We ask that uneaten food that you don't want to take home is made available for others, or for us to compost. The tub full of food waste in the photo was what we removed from bin bags of "general rubbish" that was put out in just 3 days over half term 😱 much of it was in date and unspoiled but had been chucked. If nothing else it can go for composing there's no need to put it in the black bin
4️⃣ Use the recycling facilities that we provide! If you've got kids - make it a game to put things in the right bin.Mary Poppins would approve. We have bins to separate glass, cans, hard plastics, food waste (you got that already), batteries, cardboard, tetrapacks and gas canisters. We can't recycle plastic films, nappies or food-soiled items.
5️⃣ Don't bring things you don't need - like bottled water! You get fresh spring water straight from the taps for free at Wytch Wood.

So that's it! A few ways you can reduce the impact of your next holiday and help reduce the amount of waste going into landfill unnecessarily.

What are your top tips for recycling and a greener holiday?
