Why would anyone want to come to Crowland on holiday?
Well.....apart from being in a quiet rural location where you donāt spend most of your precious week sitting in traffic, you can shop in the independent shops, relax in the lovely coffee shop, tuck into the local chippies delicious fish n chips, or the Chinese or Italian or kebab or Indian, all takeaways practically on the doorstep, or visit one of the 4 friendly pubs. What else?
Well.....thereās the friendly local community who actually talk to each other and greet you in the street. The beautiful, historic Crowland Abbey, the unique medieval Trinity Bridge that spans....nothing! Plus the tallest working windmill a short drive away. What else?
Well.......take a 15 min drive and you can be at the magnificent Peterborough Cathedral or Nene Park with its lakes, water activities, walks, playgrounds, cafes, cycle paths, pitch and putt, bridleways and steam railway, or take in a show at the Intimate Key Theatre, or the equally cosy South Holland Centre, one of the 2 large theatres, The Cresset and The New Theatre, or the vast East of England Arena. What else?
Well...... thereās a huge range of garden centres nearby and donāt forget the plant auctions. If itās something more active youāre after thereās golf courses, sailing, dri ski slopes, climbing walls, diving tuition. OK, thatās all sounds good, but what is there for children?
Well......letās see. Thereās always the skatepark in the town or great cycling ( no hills) or fishing, plus thereās the Planet Ice ice rink, or Hollywood ten pin family bowling, or the new huge indoor inflatable centre or Planet Bounce, or Lazer Tag, plus the luxurious Showcase cinema, all just 15 mins away. Whatās that? Something for toddlers?
Well.........How about the five indoor play centres,.... oh, and donāt forget the Breton Water Park. Indoor and outdoor swimming pools and Central Park, and the wonderful Sacrewell Farm where you can stay all day and eat and play inside if wet.....Ah, I hear you....you like a bit of history?
Well........how about visiting Burghley House, or Sandringham House and vast grounds-or John Clareās cottage, or Issac Newtonās home, or Kings Lynn medieval quarter, or the old stone town of Stamford. ( eat at The George or stroll the Friday street market).....OK youāre right, we donāt have the sea or a beach do we?
Well......Just a 45-50 min drive and you have the Norfolk coast. Visit Old Hunstanton, or Brancaster , or Wells next the Seaā, for beautiful uncrowded safe sandy beaches with sand dunes. ( great for hide and seek) or if itās fairgrounds, arcades and promenades youāre after Hunstanton has them all.
Yes, I can see itās a hard decision, thereās literally nothing to attract you to Crowland is there!
Well....is there?
