This morning we received a phone call from Finley’s mum. Finley has been coming for surf lessons with us at our surf centre on Croyde beach for the last few years. Finley developed a love for the ocean and whilst on holiday in Cornwall last summer, was incredibly brave and performed a rescue to save a young swimmer who had got into difficulty. Finley’s bravery has earned him a @prideofbritain award, and highlights the importance of learning the basic beach safety that along with the @rnli we teach to all pupils in our lessons. We are incredibly proud of Finley and his quick thinking to save a life. After talking with his mum this morning, he is now on a mission to campaign for all children to learn to swim as part of the school curriculum. A little Ocean Therapy, perhaps especially poignant for today, World Mental Health Day. And on that note, as you may know, we've been working with some awesome community charities for a number of years now. These include great people like @wave_wahines @waveprojectuk and the Devon Recovery Learning Community. We've seen how, with a little help from the waves and support from the teams above who are able to understand the challenges that so many of us face, lives can and do transform and hope returns. So please, please, please, however hard it may seem, reach out and ask for the support you deserve.... and remember, surfing is an all inclusive sport that is open to absolutely everybody. As you may know, amongst many other projects, Ian heads up the adaptive surf sessions for @waveprojectnorthdevon from our school here in Croyde.  Well, we’ll have some truly exciting adaptive surfing news to unveil next month. We’ll be writing a whole blog about it in June so please look out for that on our website. Morning all and what a great way to start our week with this lovely message from @olgaredinova Many of you will know Olga who worked as a Surf Instructor with us last season and quickly became a popular and much loved member of our team. Well, the good news is that Olga is returning to us this season and we're truly grateful she's coming home to the Surf South West family. For those of you who don't know her, as well as being an exceptional surf instructor, Olga has a keen interest in ocean therapy and how surfing can be used to improve mental health and aid in the recovery of trauma.
