Had to go to Haverfordwest today and decided to take a spin to Milford Haven, as not been there for a few years. Photos are of the marina. Plenty of places to eat and drink either in, or alfresco. Some shops for the ladies as well. Nice couple of hours in the afternoon sun.o

Irene, one of our guests staying in the cottage, was delighted to be able to have first hand experience of seeing a new born calf. Mum was busy cleaning the calf up and he was on his feet in less than and hour drinking. Instant maternal bonding.

We have a pond approx. half an acre in size that had gone totally over grown. Back in January this year I decided that it was time to clear the pond and get it back into and accessible state where you could walk round. While doing the restoration work we want to make it attractive to the birds and wild life. The willow trees were cut back in early February and the main Pond clearance at the end of July. The pond has now been refilled. There is some more landscaping to do on the field side when the land dries out.. This will make access to the pond safe and to be able to manage the banks to stop them getting over grown. Stocking of fish is something that we will look to do in the future. Over the next 12 months we will be planting hedging and habitat friendly plants to encourage the breeding of birds and wild life . The spoils from the pond will be leveled out and put back to grass. It will take a few years to get it to were we want it to be, but it will be worth it. A big thank you to Wedros Jones from Frenni Plant Hire for his digger work skills. Very experienced on the diggers, big or small.

The first photo was the building before we converted it in to the holiday cottage. While sitting out on the patio, or eating at the dinning table you will always see a variety of birds feeding on the bird feeders. The Woodpecker is a daily visitor together with Mr c**k pheasant. In the evenings there are great sunsets looking out of the lounge, kitchen or Patio. We are now fully booked until the end of October, subject to Covid19 staying away. Late Autumn and the winter in the cottage can offer you a time to relax, chill out, take walks on the local beaches, where you may be the only ones on the beach. You can purchase your provisions from the excellent local shops, or have online orders delivered to the cottage. If you want to dine out there are some great pubs/restaurants in the area
The cottage can be toasty warm in the winter, with the under floor heating together with the wood burner. To book click on the link below.

“Below are just a sample of the reviews that we have received for our holiday cottage on the West Wales Holiday cottage website. If interested in booking a holiday, please visit

We have been going on cottage holidays for over 20yrs, usually about 4 times a year and i have to say this is one of the very best we have had the pleasure to stay at. The location is ideal for exploring both North & South Pembrokeshire as well as the Cardigan coast and it feels remote despite being within a few minutes walk from the village centre. The cottage itself was equipped with appliances of the highest standard and everything was spotlessly clean. As it was November we thought we would make use of the woodburner but we found the underfloor heating kept us lovely and warm. Pete & Sue gave us a lovely warm welcome and a really nice hamper and were on hand should we need anything, which we didn't as everything was thought of. We would love to return when its warmer so that we can take advantage of the garden.”

We fell in love with the barn as soon as we walked in. Sue and Pete have provided every home comfort and mod con you could possibly need. We really appreciated the welcome pack goodies consisting of local cheeses, fresh eggs from the farm, crackers, grapes, milk, butter and tea and coffee. It really was the best holiday cottage we have ever stayed in. Great location, very comfortable and cosy, great hosts and we look forward to going back again. You won't regret booking Bwythn Briallen.”

Vale of Rheidol Railway
A ride on this train from Aberystwyth to Devils Bridge is something to consider when staying at Bwthyn Briallen. The journey takes you up through the forests on the mountain side, climbing all the time. The views are spectacular looking deep down into the valley and looking across at the mountains. The stations along the track are kept looking as they would have been originally by a team of volunteers. For any keen walkers, you can get off at these stations where there are circular walks and you can catch the train to return back to Aberystwyth. It makes you realise how much hard work was put into cutting out and laying this railway track.

Recommended on a clear day to appreciate the beautiful scenery.
