A green woodpecker has popped up to let you know that Woodpecker Yurt has availability next week from Monday 24th July.
Four nights are now £400 (was £460) and we’ve increased flexibility so you can stay for three nights for £330 or two nights for £240.
Did you know that the green woodpecker is colloquially known as a “yaffle” due to its laughing call? You might remember Professor Yaffle from the children’s TV programme Bagpuss. I do.

This not very good video was taken out of our kitchen window. We’ve been seeing green woodpeckers a lot lately along with greater spotted. In fact two naughty greater spotted woodpeckers were knocking on the roof above my bed earlier this week, presumably trying to catch insects in the farmhouse’s thatched roof.
Our small but perfectly formed four-sleeper yurt Willow has availability this weekend from tomorrow Friday 14th July for up to three nights and then again for two nights on Wednesday and Thursday. From £80 per night, two night minimum stay.
Our larger six sleepers have availability from Sunday 17th July with a two night minimum stay. They are just like Willow only more spacious and with greater head height and they have four full size single beds rather than two slightly narrower ones.

Back in glorious Exmouth. Colourful kites flying. What a beautiful day for a trip to the beach.
Exmouth is our nearest sandy beach and is spacious and we had no trouble parking. We used Maer Road and there were plenty of spaces even at midday.

It’s a family affair! No rest for us this fine Bank Holiday Monday. The whole family were involved in changeover today, the kids earning some pocket money for half term.
Mia and I took care of the yurts - changing beds, shaking rugs, dusting and hoovering, cleaning the camp kitchens and composting toilets while Mark and Felix tackled the yurt barn and bathrooms, cleaned and reset the wood burners, BBQs and fire pits, chopped logs and mowed the lawn.
All in all a good day’s work done and happy new guests when they arrived this afternoon.
Blackdown Yurts really is a small family run enterprise. We all muck in to provide our guests with the best experience we can. Why not bring your family to visit. We have availability on weekends of 9/10 June and 16/17 June (midweek also for those able to travel outside of school holidays!). Still some availability remaining in July and August too.

Beautiful Branscombe. We spent a very happy afternoon on Saturday, walking the dogs, picnicking, paddle boarding, swimming and sunbathing. So wonderful to see and feel the sunshine again. And it’s looking good for the foreseeable. 🤞

Buzzard is one of our three six sleepers, and is raised on a deck overlooking the beautiful rural landscape. Nestled in a corner of meadow kept long for the wildflowers and wildlife but with a mown maze of pathways meandering through it.
You have your own private camp kitchen, fire pit seating area, composting toilet and BBQ along with communal facilities in the barn where you also have a private bathroom with flushing toilet and hot shower and a fridge with ice block just for you.

We’ve decamped from the house to Willow Yurt for the night! Follow our stories for an insight into what you can expect from a night away glamping.
At least once during the season we like to come up and stay ourselves to make sure all if fine and dandy for our guests.

What a beautiful frosty start to the morning we had here. We took the dogs into the fields above the yurts to watch the sunrise. The muted pastel shades of a frozen dawn gave way to more vivid colours that crept down the hill as the sun rose and shared its warmth.
We’re not open in the winter but I love to share such images with you so you can imagine just how special it is here on a morning such as this.
We are so lucky to call such a beautiful place our home. Come and share it with us later in the year. We open for the season on March 31st.

Small but perfectly formed. 🛖 Our four sleeper yurt Willow is available this Friday 5th August for three nights. Now £300 (was £330). 🛖
Just like our larger six sleepers, Willow benefits from its own camp kitchen with gas oven/stove, fire area, outdoor seating and adjacent compost toilet. In the nearby barn is its own private bathroom, its own fridge with freezer compartment and communal cooking, dining and lounging space.
Willow has a double bed and two 2ft 6in single beds, one of which can be put away to create more space, for example for a cot or dog crate/bed if required.
Willow has a secluded location at one end of the yurt field, screened by, funnily enough, Willow trees.

Our beautiful bathrooms are all ready for our weekend guests today. This is definitely #glampingnotcamping
I’ve been in some pretty sh!tty campsite bathrooms in my time and these are not they!
The bathrooms will be five this winter, but only really two and a half in real terms as we are only open six months of the year. They are holding up really well.
Come and enjoy luxurious, stylish yet rustic bathroom facilities with hot running water and flushing toilets. Private bathroom to each yurt. Plus you still have a compost loo right beside your yurt for nighttime wees!

We are ready for the first of our half term guests. A family have taken all four yurts with grandparents, parents, children and dogs all coming along.

This is the third year in a row they have stayed after the grandparents first visited themselves in 2018 and wanted to ask everyone else along.

More amazing barn owl activity this evening. I now know where it is nesting and saw it come into our field four times in the space of about ten minutes, successfully catching prey (I would guess voles) in the long grass three times on the trot (fourth time it was mobbed by a crow) returning to the nest in between each time to feed its young. It then flew off into the field adjacent to the yurts so I hope our half term guests will get a chance to see it hunting when they are here.
We also have swallows nesting above the yurt bathrooms for the first time this year.
