Good morning all, as a heads up the stream/ river at the back of the hotel as burst its banks causing severe flooding in the area, the cobble bridge leading up to the hotel is currently inaccessible from that point with the bridge standing with 3ft of water over the road. This will also mean bike night this evening will be cancelled as we DO NOT recommend bikers attempt to wade through the water with already 3 larger vehicles being stuck. Thank you.

Come on over to the quieter side!

By that we mean the stunning western Lake District. Much quieter than the central Lakes, the west offers:

Dramatic *Wasdale* (the place we call home 🏠), with England’s highest mountain, deepest lake, and smallest church.

Beautiful *Eskdale*, home of the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, lots of country pubs, lovely valley walks and beautiful waterfalls

Wild *Ennerdale*, over the hills from us and mostly car free. Fantastic scenery, great for walking and cycling.

The Cumbrian coast. Sandy beaches, fabulous sunsets. Great for your four legged friend to run on 🐾

Goosepen is a perfect base for exploring the west.
🛌 sleeps 4 in 2 bedrooms
🪴 enclosed garden
🅿️ off road private parking
🏔️ stunning views of the fells from the cottage and garden
🍻great pub a short walk away with good food
🐾 up to 3 dogs go free
🛜 wifi if you want to stay connected
🔥wood burner for those chillier evenings
10 minutes drive to the Lake
🏖️About 5 miles from the beach
🍰 fabulous tea room in the village

See our website for availability and prices
We can’t wait to welcome you 🥰

All about Goosepen

Welcome to Goosepen Cottage, a beautiful and spacious barn conversion situated at Hallflat Farm, in the quiet Western Lake District. Our cosy cottage is located in Santon Bridge, Wasdale, and has stunning views up the Wasdale valley. Goosepen Cottage is one of a handful of properties at Hallflat Farm, and is named from the old goose pen that is now occupied by the cottage garden. Tucked away in a quiet spot away from the road and farm entrance, the cottage oozes character with many original features, including exposed stone walls and original oak beams. The cottage has full gas central heating in addition to the wood burner, to keep you warm and cosy on those colder days. The cottage is surrounded by fields, woods and impressive hills and mountains and yet is only 200m from a pub serving good beer and quality food. Hallflat Farm and Wasdale is located amongst the stunning scenery of the remote and uncommercialised Western Lake District. Wasdale boasts England's highest mountain (Scafell Pike), deepest lake (Wastwater), smallest church (St Olaf's, Wasdale Head) and Biggest Liar. The World's Biggest Liar is an annual competition held at our local pub, The Bridge Inn, and dates back to the 19th Century when a local landlord, Will Ritson, earned the title with his tall stories about the Wasdale area.

Goosepen Cottage welcomes up to 3 dogs. Please see our ‘dogs at Goosepen’ guidelines if you would like to bring your four legged friend with you.
