Welcome to Drumlanrig Castle – Slatehouse Cottage – a stunning, thoroughly renovated cottage, with four double bedrooms (or three doubles and a twin) sleeping up to eight guests and two dogs.
Drumlanrig Castle – Slatehouse Cottage is located just off the impressive approach to Drumlanrig Castle, approx. ½ a mile away from the Castle itself.
As you arrive you will immediately enjoy the stunning scenery, peace and quiet! Conveniently, there is parking just outside with further parking on the left hand side as you approach. And once you get inside Drumlanrig Castle – Slatehouse Cottage it oozes style and sophistication and is beautifully furnished throughout making your stay here on the Estate a truly memorable one.
As you enter there is a handy entrance porch filled with light and with plenty of space for muddy boots and coats after a day exploring the estate or wider Dumfries & Galloway. The open plan living/dining/kitchen room is the perfect hub for guests to enjoy a glass of wine, a board game or a cosy movie night on the large 55 inch smart TV with the wood burner blazing.The kitchen is well equipped with fridge, freezer, washing machine, dishwasher and microwave and kettle.
The property has four bedrooms. The master has a king size bed and en-suite shower room. There are two further doubles and another bedroom which can be either a king size bed or two singles. There is a family bathroom with modern freestanding bath and separate shower, and a further separate toilet.
Outside you will find an enclosed garden with modern patio and views across the Nith Valley, as well as a private hot tub. The property is a short walk from Statehouse Loch which has stunning views of the Castle and where fishing is available by separate negotiation.
Whether you want to relax and unwind or get involved in all there is to see and do your adventure starts right here in the heart of this historic and beautiful estate. The 90,000 acre estate boasts miles of beautiful walks and acres of gardens to explore. For the adventurous try one of the championship mountain biking trails or you can just relax with a day’s fishing on the river. There are numerous activities for kids from the adventure playground (restricted opening) to ranger-led wildlife walks. Further afield in this beautiful corner of Dumfries and Galloway, there are attractions in abundance from beautiful sandy beaches to dramatic cliff tops along the majestic Solway Coast. A visit to Caerlaverock Wetland Centre, a spectacular 1400-acre wild reserve is a must! With sailing, swimming, horse riding, fishing, golf, boat trips and water sports close by, there is something for everyone.

Terraughtie Cottage East is a delightful semi-detached cottage set along an unclassified road, on the outskirts of Dumfries, offering a lovely countryside location yet close enough for a lovely walk or cycle into town, around the local countryside or on the nearby cycle pathways. Terraughtie Cottage East has been completely renovated and modernised throughout in 2020 and offers the perfect and most comfortable home from home. There is a cosy wood burner in the sitting room just perfect for those chillier nights, and new and modern bathrooms and kitchen. The large gardens are the ideal playground for kids with plenty of space for them to enjoy whilst the adults relax. What better way to relax?

Only a few minutes’ walk from Terraughtie Cottage East is Kilnford Kitchen and Farm Shop,. Before enjoying a bite to eat take a stroll through the Nature Trail where you can see Belted Galloways or partake in a spot of bird watching from the bird hide. There is a Secret Garden where younger members of the family will love exploring. The Farm shop stocks everything from gifts and flowers to takeaway meals. There is even an adventure playground for the children.

If fishing is your passion you can walk/cycle easily to Auldernauk Fishery from Terraughtie Cottage East, a most attractive and well stocked three acre fly-only loch holding good sized rainbow, blue, brown and tiger trout! A quiet and friendly family-owned fishery run by anglers.

If you can tear yourself away for a day sightseeing, the area is renowned for its rugged beauty from beautiful sandy beaches, cliff top walks and forest trails. The world renowned 7stanes mountain biking routes are also within easy reach. The area is well recognised for its clear skies as one of the 12 best stargazing sites in the world, with the Galloway Forest Park being the first Dark Sky Park in the UK. Beach 15 miles. Golf 2 miles. Shop 500 yards, pub and restaurant 3 miles.

Enjoying a wonderful setting with views over the picturesque town centre, harbour and out to open sea, these spacious, detached houses offer an ideal base from which to explore the surrounding area.

The area has many renowned gardens to visit including the Botanic Gardens in Port Logan. Wigtown, Scotlands official book town is also home to a charming gallery, excellent cafés and is located only a few miles from Bladnoch Distillery, where visitors can sample the local malt whisky. For fishermen, the area offers a wide variety of opportunities including sea fishing from Portpatrick and both trout and salmon fishing close by. Other country pursuits are available including shooting and riding. Golfers will feel equally at home in this area with Stranraer, Portpatick and Lagganmore golf courses within a 20-minute drive. Turnberry, with its world famous course, is only 45 minutes away and also offers a spa, off road driving, quad biking activities and restaurant facilities. For the active there are numerous cycle routes set out in stunning Forestry Commission surroundings and cycle hire is available at these centres. Sailing is available via the local marina, and for those happy to travel slightly further afield, there is the Galloway Sailing Centre where visitors can also try windsurfing, canoeing and power boating. From Stranraer, 15 miles, there is the ferry service to Ireland for a day trip. Beach 200 yards. Shop, pub and restaurant 200 yards.
