If driving along Loch Awe's banks, you'd be forgiven for not realising this huge structure sits atop the hills high above the road. This dam was officially opened in October 1965 as part of the Cruachan Power Station, famous for its hollowed-out mountain and kilometre-long tunnel.

Kilchurn Castle sits astride Loch Awe, very aptly named when you consider what an AWEsome view is on offer! 🤩

Kilchurn Castle is also the site of the oldest (and fairly complete) barracks in the UK, originally built as part of a garrison stronghold following orders from Sir John Campbell of Glenorchy.
