INTRODUCTION
Running since 2011 X Walk is an original, low impact, all body, aerobic exercise that is practised within some of the most scenic and challenging countryside in Essex. It involves guided hillwalking followed by low resistance body toning moves and stretches whilst using telescopic walking poles. It can be undertaken throughout the whole year in almost all weather conditions, subject t
o wearing the correct clothing and foot wear and provides a great appreciation of the seasons. It is not as demanding as running, potentially safer than cycling, possibly less boring than the gym and offers all the therapeutic effects gained from being very close to nature. There is also a great emphasis on ensuring that the atmosphere is very sociable and friendly. Often many individuals would relish the thought of being able to venture into relatively remote countryside to enjoy a walk but are deterred by the obvious risk of being alone and a lack of navigation skills. X Walk overcomes this problem due to being practised with a group of participants and your guide/instructor. LOCATION AND DURATION
All classes are guided and instructed around the woods and commons of Little Baddow and Danbury and last for approximately 90 minutes. Six different and delightful scenic routes are used in rotation and should you wish to participate a schedule of dates, times and meeting points will be emailed to you. FITNESS LEVEL REQUIRED
It is suitable for people of most ages and a variety of fitness levels ranging from the relatively sedentary to those who are already fit but wish to cross train to compliment their existing sport/exercise. However, you should be able to walk at a reasonable pace for 60 minutes continuously before attending a class. These different abilities can even be catered for within the same group by the fitter individuals using loaded backpacks and/or wrist and ankle weights. YOUR GUIDE AND INSTRUCTOR
From a very young age Nick Lyons has always had a deep rooted passion for the great outdoors. He has considerable experience in hill walking, mountaineering, competitive fell/mountain running, rock climbing and resistance training with weights. He has experienced living in the Lake District National Park and since 1999 has lived on the Sandon/Danbury border. This location has enabled him to gain an unparalleled knowledge of the footpath and bridle way network that exists within the neighbouring woods and commons due to training there almost daily to support his adventurous activities. CLOTHING AND EQUIPMENT
To participate you will ideally need breathable clothing (polyester walking and general sportswear is ideal) and if raining, a water/wind proof outer layer especially during the winter. Suitable footwear will include robust trainers or walking boots. PRICE, CONTACT AND BOOKING
The price is £5.50 per class, to be paid on the day or a block of four classes can be purchased for £20.00, however once paid for these booked classes will become non refundable. Walking pole hire is included and in the unlikely event of a class/classes being cancelled a full refund will be provided. Before participating it is essential for you to complete and sign a X Walk 'suitability to participate' form.
