There are lots if exciting things happening in our local area, one of them being the opening of Hopetown Darlington this Summer after a huge investment to celebrate our railway heritage. 🚂

Tickets need to be pre booked but are free however, some areas and events are payable.

We are certainly lucky here at Ivy Cottage to be able to enjoy a large private garden for days like this ☀️

With fields to be seen from the rear of the house guests can relax and enjoy the space without being overlooked.

We are excited to see so many new places popping up locally over the last year. One of which is Hideaway Bar and Pizzeria - Darlington, which we have been lucky enough to have visited a few times recently. In fact, we are already planning on our next visit to taste our way through their menu 😋🍕

This isn’t the first time we have posted about Thorp Perrow Arboretum. We visited again last weekend and were very lucky to have had such lovely weather ☀️. Although, Its safe to say the few pictures we have here do not do the place justice 🌳💐.
During our visit, we enjoyed a lovely walk through the arboretum with a stop of at the adventure play area and, the birds of prey and mammal centre 🦘🦅.
It is certainly well worth a visit and less than 40 minutes from the cottage 🚗.
They also host special events throughout the year so do keep an eye on there website

August is now very limited with only 6 nights available. However, October and December holiday dates are still up for grabs 🙌

We are very lucky to have some great coastal spots within easy reach.

One of which, being Seaham, just over 40 minutes drive from the cottage. Seaham is part of the Durham Heritage Coast and, the home of Tommy, a statue of a First World War soldier by artist Ray Lonsdale.

If your lucky, you may also pick up some beautiful pieces of sea glass which can be found washed up along the beach. Much of the sea glass here, is a by-product of the many glass and bottle works located in the area during the Victorian and Edwardian eras, where much of the waste glass was dumped out at sea.
