This Sunday 10th October marks world mental health day, the official theme for this year’s event is ‘Mental Health in an Unequal World’.

Mental ill-health is a silent crisis within the construction industry, with males three times more likely to commit su***de than those in other sectors.

Did you know:

1 in 6.8 people are experience mental health problems in the workplace (14.7%).

Women in full-time employment are nearly twice as likely to have a common mental health problem as full-time employed men (19.8% vs 10.9%).

Evidence suggests that 12.7% of all sickness absence days in the UK can be attributed to mental health conditions.

In honour of Sands, stillbirth and neonatal death charity awareness month we would like to share a message from one of our dear friends.

Jordan Glen first met Marc Powney in 2014 at Sunday football.

"During 2015 whilst managing the Sunday Reserves, my wife and I unfortunately lost our twins Teddy and Matthew Glen. I was broken. I was lost. I changed overnight.

I remember the day I went to a training session and told the boys what had happened, I slowly broke down. We had a young squad at the time but Marc being slightly older, and a dad himself was one of the first to comfort me. I think for that moment, Marc was the only who could possibly understand how I could be feeling.

When Sands United FC Kent was formed, I spoke to Marc about the new venture. Without asking Marc offered his support from the off. Marc and Svet both agreed to be our home and away shirt sponsors! For me it was more than a sponsor.

15 men who could now use Sands United FC Kent as their safe place, their outlet, their chance to play for their child or children. That to me meant more than anything. I'm proud to play for the boys at Sands United FC Kent, I'm proud to play for ST Construction, but most importantly I'm proud to play for my sons."
