✨ STARGAZING IN DAWLISH ✨

A few days ago, the amazing Dawlish artist Nelly P. at Boat Cove posted a lovely picture of Boat Cove at night, which reminded me of a similar shot that I took in 2022.

Boat Cove is a wonderful place to visit on a clear evening, to watch the stars twinkling in the sky and perhaps even catch a glimpse of satellites or the International Space Station passing overhead.

Over Christmas 2022 we spent a couple of lovely evenings sat on a bench at Boat Cove, watching the stars. It was so peaceful.

🥚EGG-CITING TIMES IN DAWLISH🥚

This morning we spent a while sitting on the bench next to lovely Kimba, the Dawlish Black Swan.

After re-arranging her nesting materials, she stood up to turn her eggs!
We think the new cygnets may hatch around the end of February, all being well.

🍄 FOREST FUNGI - DAWLISH 🍄

Have you visited the amazing mushroom farm in Dawlish Warren yet? As featured in the James Martin TV Series ‘Islands to Highlands’.

Forest Fungi offers guided tours of their incredible ‘Shroom Rooms’ where you can see all sorts of exotic mushrooms growing, and learn all about their health benefits and how they are cultivated from a very knowledgeable guide.

There is also an onsite farm shop and cafe, which is highly recommended - the breakfasts are amazing!

Whilst walking along Dawlish Warren Beach on Friday afternoon, during low tide, we found the most beautiful shells sitting on the sand.

We spent a lovely afternoon walking around Dawlish Warren Nature Reserve today, in the glorious January sun.

Spotted a lovely little bird near the golf course, which Google suggests is a male Stonechat, can anyone confirm?

☀️ SUNNY SOUTH DEVON ☀️

What a beautiful January day it is, here on the glorious South Devon Coast.

After the big storm and ferocious waves of last Sunday, my favourite sea glass hunting ground was particularly fruitful this morning! 😊

🦢 BIG STRETCH 🦢

Did you know that Black Swans have 25 vertebrae in their necks, giving them a great range of flexibility.

We enjoy watching our Dawlish resident pair of mating swans, Kimba & Bert, in the pampus bush next to The Brook, stripping foliage for their cosy little nest.

👁️ BREEDING SEASON COLOUR CHANGE 👁️

Whilst watching Bert and Kimba, the Dawlish Black Swans, tend to their nest yesterday, I noticed that the whites of their eyes were red! After a bit of googling, it turns out that this is normal for Black Swans during breeding season.

Next time you’re in Dawlish, make sure you have a look at our beautiful Swans eyes - aren’t they just amazingly graceful creatures!

☀️THE DAWLISH COAST☀️

Standing on top of Lea Mount a couple of weeks ago, bathing in the golden glow of the winter mid-morning sun, the secluded beach of Coryton Cove below me looked utterly stunning.

Dawlish is home to one of the most famous (and beautiful) sections of Coastal Railway in the UK, it’s not hard to see why.

🐟 LOW TIDE EXPLORATION 🐟

Every now and again we get very low tides in Dawlish, which gives the perfect opportunity to explore parts of our coastline that are usually hidden from view.

🌊 LEA MOUNT, DAWLISH 🌊

The best view of Dawlish and of the wider South Devon Coastline is from Lea Mount, a lovely little park that sits high above Boat Cove and Coryton Cove.
