The Boma at Pentre Mawr
As many of our guests will know that we are lucky enough to have a home in South Africa. And so we built our African Safari lodges in a similar style to the ones we saw on game farms in SA. While the traditional Boma was built as an area to corral cattle, many safari lodges in Africa now offer open-air boma dining areas as a way for visitors to get a taste of African culture. After a day in the bush, it's a wonderful way to gather around a fire and exchange the wildest stories of the wildlife sightings you've had on your game drive. Sadly we can't offer game drives though there will be sightings of mini Shetlands but we decided it would be great to have an area where our guests could socialise. So we've built a covered area with a fire pit and a Braai ( African BBQ). So if you don't feel like heading out, head to the boma, cook your dinner on wood(we'll supply plenty) and share a beer with new friends.

Everyone these days knows what glamping is all about but here at Pentre Mawr we take it to another level. Our six genuine safari lodges are the perfect option for an adventurous, but very comfy and luxurious getaway. 🍃

The sound of our little mini Shetlands wandering outside the lodges will make you imagine there are lions patrolling the area and an early call of the fox could be a hyena in the distance...

The nearest thing to flying .... Zip World Velocity, Bethesda, is the fastest zip line in the world and the longest in Europe. This adventure takes you on the Little Zipper to build your confidence before you journey up the quarry on their famous red trucks. Take in the stunning views from the Big Top of Velocity, out towards Anglesey with views of the Isle of Man on a clear day! You will then descend down the Big Zipper over the quarry lake often reaching speeds well in excess of 100mph.

Built at the command of the eighth-century king of Mercia, Offa’s D**e is Britain’s longest ancient monument, following the border between England and Wales. Found just above the hills at Pentre Mawr, this beautiful area is perfect for walkers.

The Offa’s D**e Path National Trail criss-crosses back and forth along the Anglo-Welsh border, stretching from North to South Wales, passing through no less than three Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Built as a defensive barrier in the 8th century by King Offa, this is definitely a National Trail to cross off your bucket list. It combines walks through wild moorlands, ancient woodlands and along ridges in the Black Mountains, with a rich historical heritage featuring ruined monasteries, impressive hillforts and Norman castles.
