Today’s wedding flowers ❤️🌻
The bride wanted a loose and messy hand tied of sunflowers, spray roses, gyp and foliage with slightly trailing foliage.
Bridesmaids (x4) were gyp bouquets with trailing ribbon, gyp buttonholes for the gents, wrist corsages for the Mums and a small sunflower buttonhole for the Groom.
I also made the bride a smaller bouquet for the traditional throwing of the bouquet as she didn’t want to use hers 😃 and I don’t blame her!
Huge congratulations to Nikki and James. Enjoy your sunshine wedding day ❤️🌻❤️🌻❤️🌻

I’m down to my last box of parafilm and no one can get it for love or money!😧 I might have to use the sticky stuff…Stemtex 🤬
And I’ve also run out of Magnesium Sulphate paste, a brilliant concoction for drawing out thorns ( safe and hygienic Steve Pride Flowers not like your method of a Stanley knife & tweezers 😳) and no chemists have any😩
As long as we don’t run out it tea ☕️ or wine 🍷, I might just survive 😂😂

The best tip obviously is to buy from a florist, the flowers will be the best quality and conditioned correctly.
But wherever you buy your flowers you can increase their vase life by conditioning them when you get them home.
Fill a clean vase with water and add the flower food (if provided) following the instructions on the packet.
Remove the packaging and any leaves on the stems that are going to be under the water.
Cut the stem ends at an angle, to increase the surface area that can take up the water and place the flowers immediately into the vase.
Keep in a cool place out ot direct sunlight and away from fruit.
Change the water every 2 to 3 days.
Enjoy your flowers 🌺🌸🌼🌻🌹🌷

Scissors, secateurs and a florist knife, our tools of our trade.
Not all florists like to use a knife when working but for me it’s like an extension of my hand.
I learned to master using a knife while I was doing my industrial placement year at college. I was working at Welch The Florist with Tony Shaw NDSF AIFD and he taught me how to work with a knife as it gives a cleaner cut on flower stems. I never looked back.

I wouldn’t say it was strange but definitely something different.
Several years ago I made a bridal bouquet out of pine cones and contorted hazel. The bride had a serious fresh flower allergy and didn’t particularly want silk flowers for her bouquet. She’d seen a pine cone bouquet I’d made for a winter wedding fayre, (just as a talking point on the day),loved it so much that she commissioned one for her winter wedding and for some of the pine cones to be sprayed gold.
It took a lot of wiring and taping and several attempts until I was happy with it but Michelle loved it 😍
It is still to this day one of my favourite bridal bouquets ❤️

Where did my floristry journey begin 🤔
It started when I was in the Girl Guides and I did the flower arranging badge! A lady from the church flower arranging team came along to test us and invited the Guides to decorate the church porch windows. I was the only one who stuck at it, getting promoted to one of the large windows. I loved it so much I went to the Welsh College of Horticulture to do a B/Tec National diploma in floristry and flower production and the rest is history as they say.
I’ve been a florist for over 30 years and cannot imagine never working with flowers. A day without flowers is like a day without sunshine 💜💚
