THE FO’C’SLE. Perched above Port Isaac harbour, The Fo’C’sle is located in one of England’s most charming coastal villages. Dating back to the 18th century, The Fo’C’sle is an enchanting Grade II listed fisherman’s cottage elevated above the picturesque harbour.
Situated between Port Quinn and the delightful Port Gaverne on a stunning stretch of the North Cornwall heritage coastline, Port Isaac is surrounded by countryside designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty. Narrow streets and alleys are lined with 18th and 19th century cottages interspersed with artisan craft shops, pubs and award winning dining venues encircling the harbour where fisherman have combed the local waters for hundreds of years. This is Cornish life at its best; full of history and evokes the romance of seaside holidays from days gone by.
Hugging the headland is The South West Coast Path following some truly beautiful, unspoiled sections of this coast combining remote inlets and historic promontory offering spectacular views. Venture out for a gentle stroll or an adventurous ramble before supper.
Whether visiting the village fishmongers for catch of the day to cook alfresco or reserving a table at one of the many restaurants in Port Isaac - including not one, but two of Nathan Outlaw’s Michelin star eateries - an array of fresh fish and local produce here is assured.
Port Isaac is within easy reach of Polzeath, Padstow and Rock. Polzeath is best known for its golden sands and consistent surf, whilst also being the favourite haunt of the former Poet Laureate, Sir John Betjeman, buried at nearby St Enodoc. Padstow is a bustling port exuding the ebb and flow of harbour life with many shops and popular eateries including Rick Stein’s Seafood Restaurant, and is the place to embark on the delightful camel cycle trail. Whilst Rock regularly hosts the celebrity crowd and yachting fraternity, alongside those seeking the thrill of water-skiing or wake-boarding in the breeze of the Camel Estuary. The clutch of trendy bars, cafes and restaurants located waterside are an invitation for long lingering lunches.
