🇦🇷 North west Argentina is a relatively unknown area and Salta is the centre from which to explore this spectacularly varied region.
The multi-coloured valleys and canyons of Calchaques twist and turn down to Cafayate from where you can visit the ancient pre-Inca ruins of Quilmes, or 🥾 walk through narrow canyons to hidden waterfalls, or, 🍷 sample wine from the many vineyards in the area.

We love trekking and South America is one of the best places in the world for walking holidays, whether they are short day walks or full weeks of trekking.

Any walking experience can be done on your own, although some of the longer treks like the Inca Trail can be better in a group where you share the experience. For other more diverse destinations, like Torres Del Paine in Chile or the Lake District in Argentina we recommend day walks as the best way to see the area as it allows you to access different parts of the Andes each day.
