Just three days to go! On Thursday, hundreds of volunteers will be facing a cold and uncomfortable night on a train station floor, in support of Railway Children’s #BigStationSleepout. Railway Children supports vulnerable children who are alone, at risk, and homeless; many having run away or left their homes due to suffering from poverty, violence, abuse, and neglect. Our sponsorship of the #BigStationSleepout shows our support to Railway Children and its aim to reach children as soon as they arrive on the streets, to stop any further harm. Nigel followed his father’s and brother’s footsteps, joining VolkerRail, and has developed from a trainee maintainer operator to operations manager – a role he never thought possible. Nigel Roberts 10 years' long service

Well done to Nigel Roberts, for achieving your 10 years’ long service at VolkerRail. Through his career, Nigel has helped hundreds of people to grow and develop through training courses and mentoring schemes across VolkerRail. After interviewing Nigel, we learnt that his fascination with people’s reactions and acceptance of change inspired him to pursue a career in nurturing development, stating that his biggest motivation is being able to help someone reach their goals. Congratulations Steve McQuade on your 20 years’ long service. Steve started his rail career as a platelayer working on the majority of the UK’s light rail tram networks. Today, he is a duty manager working on the Transpennine Route Upgrade project. Steve says he enjoys his role because there’s always great opportunities for training. Well done Steve. We are delighted to be named as finalists in the Spotlight Rail Awards 2025. Our signalling and telecoms teams have been shortlisted alongside our project partners Network Rail, Bam Nutall and CRSA, for the Acting as One Team Award for our work at Bradford Forster Square station. The Rail electrification Alliance has been shortlisted for the Outstanding Project (over £20m) Award, for its work on the ECML Power Supply Upgrade project and Static Frequency Converters. Today we are celebrating Ian Jones’ 20 years’ long service. Ian enjoys his role as a senior lineman, which has seen him work on a variety of projects across the UK. Today we are celebrating George Walker’s 10 years’ long service. George joined us after a career in the NHS, which saw him managing a diverse range of services and projects. He now works as a duty manager in our control centre. Reflecting on a decade at VolkerRail, George says it has been remarkable to witness the growth and development of both the company and his team.
