This year's Dornoch Games will have additional interest in the Local Heavies with a group of ladies entering who have been training for the last two months.

With practice sessions split between The Meadows Park and the Dornoch Pods at Evelix the group started when Angie Grant-Omotosho enquired if ladies could enter the Heavy events.

Dornoch have had female athletes compete in 2023 with Debbi Tugwell competed in the Local Heavies and Abbie Harrison, who went onto gain RSHGA Female Athlete of the Year competing in the Track & Field.

The group of three ladies met at weight training session in Tain and have increased their Heavies group up to five. They plan to compete and Dornoch, Durness, Tain, Strathpeffer and Helmsdale.

Currently the Royal Scottish Highland Games Association rules use lighter weights for females and they throw against the men. Willie MacKay, Dornoch Highland Games President, said, "With a good number of ladies competing I shall asking my committee to consider having a separate Ladies category."

We were out for breakfast this morning at the River Bothy, Berriedale which we highly recommend, and were lucky enough to be down at the beach when 4 orca passed north. I'm reliably informed that they are part of the 27's pod. They passed quickly but what an amazing sight 😍
