What to do if your travel destination goes from Green to Amber 🟢🚦🟠

Has your destination changed from green to amber and you are now left wondering what that means for your holiday. !?!

We have answered below some of the most commonly asked questions right now. 👇

Q. My destination has moved from Green to Amber - Am I still allowed to travel?

A. Yes, you are still allowed to travel.

The traffic light system is separate from the FCDO travel guidelines - and moving from green to amber does not change the guidance to "essential travel only", therefore legally you are still allowed to travel.

What it does mean however is that when you return you will now need to isolate for 10 days (this can be at home) - you must still take a pre-departure test and you must also take a PCR test on day 2 & 8 of your return.

Q. Does it change what tests I need?

A. Yes! It doesn't change what you need to go on holiday, however it does change what you need to do when you return.

You will need to book a pre-departure test and PCR tests for day 2 & 8 of your self-isolation.

You may decide to shorten the 10 day self-isolation by paying to opt into the “Test to Release” scheme - this would require the test on day 2 and then a test on day 5 which if negative ends your isolation period.

Q. Can I use “Test To Release” now that my destination is amber?

A. Sure can! The self-isolation requirements are 10 days at home (or another suitable place) but you can reduce this to only 5 days with “Test to Release”.

You need to take the Day 2 test as planned (you had to do that for Green list anyway) and then instead of booking the additional day 8 test, book a “Test to Release instead.

Q. My destination has moved from green to amber - will my holiday be cancelled?

A. Your holiday won't automatically be cancelled if the destination moves from green to amber.

If you booked flights separately then these may still operate (there is of course a chance airlines may cancel these flights due to demand).

If you booked a package holiday then again it is up to the supplier whether these are cancelled or not - it is best to check with them.

If you're wondering why they aren't automatically cancelled - again it comes down to the difference between the traffic light system and the FCDO guidance on non-essential travel.

Q. I don't feel comfortable travelling anymore - what can I do?

A. As flights etc may not be automatically cancelled it may mean that you are left with a decision to make about whether you still want to go or not.

In this situation if you decide to cancel you are likely to be left out of pocket as this isn't something travel insurance tends to cover. However that being said, most holiday companies now give you the option to postpone or to move your trip to later dates - so it's worth contacting them and seeing what they can do for you.

We at Global Travel Finders are offering free date changes on all current bookings for international travel until 01.08.2021.

Q. If I am already on holiday when it moves from Green to Amber do I have to fly back early?

A. This one is really up to you - if you booked a package holiday it is unlikely your flights will be moved forward so chances are you will have to stay until the orginal planned end date.

If you booked flights separately you may be able to speak to your airline about bringing these flights forward.

At the end of the day, it's not illegal to be there - all it means is that when you return you will now have to follow the amber list return procedure. Which again is, a pre-departure test, 10 day self-isolation at home and a PCR test on day 2 and 8.

It was discovered in 1835. The Shell Grotto is astonishing with 70 ft of winding passages decorated with 4.6 million shells - images of gods and goddesses, trees of life patterns made of whelks, mussels and oysters.
