Posted • and 🌟 We can’t wait for 𝗗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿’𝘀 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗨𝗽 on Saturday, 8th February! 🎉✨Join us for a fantastic day packed with free activities, workshops, and entertainment, bringing light into the depths of Winter. Anyone and everyone is welcome to join in throughout the day, and if you’ve made a lantern at one of our workshops, don’t forget to come and pick it up from us before the parade starts at 5pm! Here’s everything you need to know:

🎨 𝗗𝗮𝘆𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 & 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽𝘀 (𝟭𝟬𝗮𝗺 – 𝟯𝗽𝗺)

• Return to Pencester Gardens for 𝗗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗪𝗶𝘀𝗵: 6:15pm

EVENT POSTPONED
NEW DATE 8th Feb 2025

Dover Town Council and Future Foundry are sad to announce that Dover’s Winter Light Up will be postponed due to Storm Darragh forecast to reach Dover this weekend. All festivities, activities and the lantern procession which were to be taking place on Saturday 7th of December are on hold until February 8th 2025.

We have been very lucky over the past 4 years to have had perfect conditions for Dover’s Winter Light Up. However with 60mph gusts predicted on Saturday, it will not be possible to run the event safely.

The great news is that Dover’s Winter Light Up has been rescheduled for Saturday the 8th of February. It will be a festival of light when we need it most - at the end of winter just before the first signs of spring. We will be offering all the enchanting activities we had planned for this weekend, with circus performances, cabaret, music, rides, markets, workshops and Future Foundry’s magical lantern procession - all just in time for the start of spring.

In the meantime stay safe during Storm Darragh and we wish you a wonderful festive, winter season.

Our What’s On calendar is jam-packed with fantastic fun stuff for young people to do in the Dover, Deal and Sandwich area this autumn half term, with several events free of charge. If you have youngsters to entertain next week, look no further:

📅 All week 📅
🔎 Visit the amazing Roman Painted House in Dover and take part in the Roman trail – free entry, 10am-4pm (open Saturday 26 and Monday 28 Oct to Friday 1 Nov).
📸 Dover Youth Festival – take part in a wealth of free creative activities at various venues including stargazing, pop-up cinema, stone carving, photography, beach sculpture and loads more (for ages 11 to 19; events from Saturday 26 Oct to Saturday 2 Nov).
🎃 Pick your own pumpkins at Felderland Farm near Sandwich – 10am to 4pm (daily until Thursday 31 October). Booking required.
🦇 Head to Dover Castle to take part in Halloween-themed activities including spooky stories and a creepy quest – 10am to 4pm (Saturday 26 Oct to Sunday 3 Nov).
🎥 Drive to Betteshanger Park near Deal for a Family Halloween Drive-in to watch a programme of spooky (family) films shown at 1pm and 4pm each day (Monday 28 Oct to Sunday 3 Nov).
🎃 Hunt for mini pumpkins at Kent Mining Museum, Betteshanger Park (Thursday 24 Oct to Sunday 3 Nov).

👻 Join ghost-hunting storytellers for a Spooky Woodland Walk at Walmer Castle Gardens (suitable for ages 5 to 10) – walks at 5.30pm, 6.30pm and 7.30pm.

🎨 Get crafty at Dover Museum’s free Halloween decoration workshop (for children aged 6+ and accompanying adults) – 10am to 3pm.

📅 Wednesday 30 Oct 📅
🦇 Follow the spooky trail, meet the owls and have your face painted on Halloween Day at Kearsney Park – 10am to 3pm. Booking required.
🍄 Have Fangtastic Fun at Fort Burgoyne by following the spooky trail and creating some spooktacular crafts (for ages 5+) – 10am to 3pm. Booking required.

📅 Thursday 31 Oct 📅
👻 Join ghost-hunting storytellers for a Spooky Woodland Walk at Walmer Castle Gardens (suitable for ages 5 to 10) – walks at 5.30pm, 6.30pm and 7.30pm.

🎇 Enjoy fireworks and Rallycross under floodlights at Lydden Hill Race Circuit

Many family-friendly attractions are also open including Dover Museum, Roman Landings Adventure Golf in Walmer, Sandwich Museum, Deal Castle, Battle of Britain Memorial at Capel-le-Ferne, Crabble Corn Mill in River, Richborough Roman Fort near Sandwich, Samphire Hoe and Wingham Wildlife Park, so there is plenty to do to keep everyone happy all week!

Last week, a flock of rare red-billed choughs, not seen in Kent for over 200 years, were released into the wild as part of a remarkable rewilding project. Keep an eye out for them when you next visit the castle or the local area - you might just spot them too! Huge thanks to Nicola for capturing this. 🦅✨
