This is our last weekend of the season and our guests have unfortunately had to postpone!

This is literally your last chance to experience some real time out at Hay Field Hideout till we reopen next year.

We provide a batch of wood for you to keep cosy by the campfire or stove in the evening... wherever you prefer to toast those marshmallows 😍

Hay Field Hideout Pack member 4 of 4: Ned
You'll likely meet them ALL at check-in.

Happy & Hungry would sum Ned up in 2 words!
As a result of his past he is very jumpy around humans, but since being adopted by Adam he has known only love and gentleness from his new family. The beach is where Ned fully comes out of his shell, boy he loves the water!

If you're planning to bring your dog with you to Hay Field Hideout then we'd recommend Ballyhornan Bay Beach as a great spot for zoomies!!

Hay Field Hideout pack member: Rollo

This handsome leggy Jack Russel is such a sweet boy. He had us worried with a health scare a wee while back, but he's on the mend now β€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή He's is also the most likely to find the garden fences weak spot and come visit you at the Bell Tent!! πŸ’πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ sorry if he does, buts he's such a sweetheart I doubt you'll mind!

Bring your dog with you to Hay Field Hideout for an adventure πŸ•οΈ

Meet the pack:
Ronan, he arrived at Hay Field Hideout from Scotland this year with Rosie. Prior to that he arrived in Scotland from Romania as a rescue from the streets. He is a beautiful boy inside & out, has the loudest bark on the farm and a uncanny skill of ruining photos.

We welcome guests to bring their own dogs to the glampsite here. There is even an enclosed field around the tent for them to run loose in.

Each week we will introduce you to another one of the Hay Field Hideout pack. The Dog to human ratio on the farm is correctly balanced at 1:1 (though I wouldn't be against 3:1)

First up, Freddo.
What he lacks in stature he makes up for in spirit, a real life Scrappy-do. He'd run with a pack of wolves or enter a greyhound race without doubting himself for a second... but once he curls up in your lap for a nap, he instantly looks like a puppy again πŸ’—

You are welcome to bring your dog to Hay Field Hideout too, that way the whole family can enjoy a holiday. Link in bio

p.s no mothers were hurt in the making of this post... just the plant Jean was digging out!

The Kelly's Farm, home to Hay Field Hideout, is a fantastic example of how to work with nature and not against it. So much so that last month the used it as a working example to demonstrate to visiting farmers how they too could incorporate different environmental farming schemes into their land.

The time and effort Adam and his father Jack put into creating health habitats of insects, birds and mammals is truly inspirational.

When you visit you'll see the wildflowers, pollinator strips and species diverse Hay meadows for yourself and likely hear the barn owl hunting over them at night.

EHOD 2023 is taking place over the weekend of 9-10 September 2023. It is a once-a-year opportunity for curious families, architect lovers and heritage enthusiasts to explore buildings and exclusive sites rarely open to the public.
As part of Northern Ireland's contribution close to 200 venues will open offering free entry with many activities ranging from guided tours and walks to talks and lectures, from living history re-enactments to community fun days, from musical events to screenings to brand new places to visit, there is something for everyone!

Some of our recommendations are: Castle ward & Audley's Castle (GOT fans delight), Mount Stewart and Downpatrick's railway museum.

Why not bag as many free activities as possible then and finish your weekend relaxing at Hay Field Hideout.

Here is the link to all the free EHOD 2023 events:

Meet Sam and Frodo, self-nominated security men!

Their role at Hay Field Hideout is (apparently) to log guest movement on to, and off, the farm via their wall vantage point opposite the car park πŸ’πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ..except when distracted by food!

Having time to read that book you bought months ago! Imagine that 🀯

This book, Planting with Nature, by my friend is the perfect source of inspiration to equip you with ideas to encourage more wildlife into your garden at home.

Don't worry if you don't have your own copy - you can borrow mine for the weekend πŸ˜‰

Hay Field Hideout has been fully booked since opening πŸ₯³ the response and feedback has been incredible, we couldn't be happier.

There is still some availability in September if you'd like to book your escape. Don't leave it too long though, as this will be the last chance to visit us until next year.

The bell tent will head off into hibernation soon and we will get to work hatching plans for some 4-season accommodation options πŸ› οΈπŸ€”

Head to the link is our bio for booking details.

Maverick (πŸͺΏ) believes he should be seen... and heard!

He was our constant, uninvited, companion during the build process! Since the fence along the stream was temporarily removed to build the bridge he would waddle up the bank to come supervise us, and terrify the dogs, daily!
Now the fence is back in place, you will have exclusive use of the field again but Maverick, will still undoubtedly still have his 5 minutes of fame accompanying you from the car park to the bridge via his aquatic route.

Hay Field Hideout is located inside the Strangford and Lecale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), this alone makes it well worth a visit. But, we are also just; 50 minutes away from Belfast, 40 mins from the (literally) breathtaking Mourne Mountains, 10 mins from sandy beaches and the Irish Sea, with a wealth of activities, history and good food & drink venues close by... Hay Field Hideout is in the perfect location to enjoy it all.

White yarrow grows wild all over the farm.

It not only looks dreamy but the flat shape of each flower head makes it a firm favourite with lots of different insects.

So, if you'd like to encourage more wildlife into your garden at home, choose umbel-shaped flowers with easy to access nectar such as Achillea, Sedum and Ammi.
