We need to take a stand against the anti hunting bill otherwise shooting ( already under threat on environmental/conservation grounds) and angling including salmon fishing will follow.

Dogs (terriers, lurchers, sighthounds, scent hounds, gundogs) are under massive threat in Northern Ireland. If you don't want to lose it all, like Scotland just did, get behind changing the numbers on this survey link and fill it in. Or has apathy beaten us? https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/JBHuntingPMB

USE IT or LOSE IT! Because of illness in the team we postponed our Winter Pro Hunting magazine to Spring. However the online FREE to READ version of the Autumn magazine still continues to deliver readership and business for our advertisers with 3682 readers last week giving a total of over 60,000 visits for this edition. At a time when not only hunting but also ALL country sports are under threat we are disappointed by the lack of support in terms of advertising from country sports businesses especially gun and tackle shops. At adverts costing from just £100 to reach a huge audience we are stunned that such businesses don't see the benefits to our sports and the future of their business of reaching a huge audience. We are also disappointed by the number of peope taking up a susbcription for the hard copy magazine at just £22.50 for the year - with the cost of printing and postage going up this represents great value. We have planned a pro hunting edition to oppose the anti hunting bill going out in early Spring and invite the trade and public to demonstrate whether they want Ireland to continue to have ITS OWN COUNTRY SPORTS magazine by indicating their support through booking advertising or a subscription. If support is not forthcoming this will be the LAST Edition. Past issues can be viewed at https://issuu.com/bluegator For full details contact us by pm or mail at [email protected].

2025 IS LIKELY TO BE A DEFINING YEAR FOR COUNTRY SPORTS IN IRELAND.
Over the last year the USPCA and LACS ( the League Against Cruel Sports) have been active at public events throughout Northern Ireland getting signatures for a re-run of an ANTI HUNTING ACT. This obviously creates an even bigger threat than the recently defeated Alliance Bill.
However the threats are piling up not only for HUNTING but also for SHOOTING and for all sports which involve the pursuit of animals ‘for sport’ or where species are threatened due to environmental factors – this could obviously bring in salmon fishing.
On shooting – LACS describe the rearing of birds for shooting ‘as probably more cruel than hunting’ and of course Pakham has been ‘chipping away’ on lead shot, lead shot in supermarket game, general licences, burning of grouse moors, a reduction in the season for Woodcock, restrictions on game bird releases and the adverse environmental impact of releasing ‘foreign species’ like pheasants on native wildlife. In general terms he is winning these arguments and with a Labour government in place is likely to generate restrictions.
So if HUNTING in NI goes we can only see that SHOOTING will at best come under much greater scrutiny.
While these threats to our sports are gathering support there is LITTLE or NO pushback from the country sports community. WE ARE KEEN to HELP the COUNTRY SPORTS COMMUNITY oppose the thin edge threat to our sports from the hunting bill and so in association with some of the organisations we shall be launching a campaign early in 2025 to ‘KEEP IRELAND HUNTING!’
This will include the Irish country Sports & Country Life magazine, a re-launch of the Virtual Game Fair and building the Virtual Game Fair YOUTUBE CHANNEL. ALL ARE FREE including subscribing to https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZwsE_EUmvu2xZvmwuq5CzA where we will post YOUR videos. All YOU have to do is demonstrate YOUR SUPPORT for Irish country sports!! PLEASE SHARE.
The image we have chosen for our campaign and the Cover of the Spring magazine is this evocative painting by John R Moore of THE FOX.
