⚠️ Temporary closures on the Monsal Trail (from 6 January; weekdays only)

To allow for essential tree safety works and annual maintenance, sections of the Monsal Trail will be closed on weekdays (Mon-Fri) during January and February.

During this time, it may not be possible to use the full length of the trail as a through route. We aim to re-open sections in turn as the required works are completed.

Weekends and holiday periods will be unaffected and the full route will be available to use with care.

We have chosen this time to minimise the impact on users during seasonal peak periods. All trail-based businesses will be open as normal, but please check winter operating information.

(UPDATE) Due to high winds, Hardwick Hall and parklands will be closed on the 31 December and will have a delayed opening on 1 January 2025.

Due to high winds, Hardwick Hall will be closed on Sunday 22nd December.

The site will re-open at 11am, with the Hall open from 12pm on Monday 23rd once safety checks have been completed.

Christmas can be a magical time - but for those on their own it can be the loneliest time of the year. For the past 5 years Damon Alexander-Cole has been organising Christmas Day hikes to be sure that nobody has to spend the day alone. This year he has a mini team with him and they’re leading walks in the Peak District, Snowdonia, and Northumberland.

Many people join solo, feeling shy or unsure at first, but by the end they leave with new friends, unforgettable memories and a whole new perspective on Christmas. They share laughs and mince pies and good company.

A lovely family friendly event, and a great start to the festive period. Amazingly imaginative & artistic lanterns, brass bands, Christmas market stalls, funfair & children's activities, drumming bands, carols, food stalls...there was even snow! What a fantastic evening!

REMINDER! We're making parking FREE again in our pay and display car parks after 2pm from this Sunday, throughout December, for a 17th year.

This initiative has traditionally supported local traders and shoppers at Christmas.

The resident parking permit issued to all Derbyshire Dales households already makes parking free every day of the year before 11am and after 3pm 👍
