Drone Footage of House
We have also had some beautiful drone footage taken of Polmaily House which gives some context as to the grounds we have here!
The micro music festival @polmailyhouselochness is in full swing with the highland gospel choir currently on stage! #dashinthedrum #polmailyhouse #music #festival
Hope you are all safe and well. Whilst human visitors may have to wait a few more weeks before being able to visit historic Polmaily House, our new wildlife camera has caught some interest footage of some newcomers. A lovely badger took a fancy to some left over melon. We did think what foodstuff could we leave out to tempt wildlife to catch them on film. I'm surprised badgers like melon - I thought that they only like mashed potato! Get the joke??
We are frequently amazed by what we discover about Polmaily House. Whilst looking at maps of the area from the beginning of the last century, we noticed that the grounds of Polmaily House had several 'fountains'.
After lots of digging we discovered the 'fountain' that you see in the video. After more research, it appears that a fountain is not as we imagine it today, but a spring of pure water!
This also links back to the name - Polmaily House, which means Maillie's Pool. Maillie was one of the many saints of the Great Glen and perhaps we have uncovered her 'pool' after being lost for hundreds of years??!!
Whilst the spring currently runs through the trout pond and eventually down into Loch Ness, perhaps there might be call for a Polmaily Spring Water bottling plant! Lovely jubbly!
Maybe not Aphrodite's Well, but another hidden secret of this historic house uncovered for all our guests to enjoy.
