PART-TIME GARDENER / GARDEN HELP REQUIRED. Keeping 6 acres looking good is becoming more and more of a challenge at Polmaily House! We are looking for someone who can help out on a regular or ad-hoc basis. Maybe even a regular one day a week might be available for the right person. All equipment provided. Even though there are only 133 days to CHRISTMAS, it is still not too late to book your family pre-Christmas break at Polmaily House, Loch Ness. We are offering a large discount on any 3 night break during December, 2024 (2 night breaks might be considered) for you and your loved ones to enjoy a pre-Christmas celebration.
This event proved very popular last year so we expect available dates to go quite quickly. The house will be beautifully decorated with 6 Christmas trees and all the associated Christmas sparkle both inside and outside the house.

PART-TIME HELP NEEDED. Our guests are looking for some help to tidy up in the kitchen and around the house during their stay. They arrive on 5 August for 12 nights but want help for at least 7 days at £15 per hour 8am - midday.

FREE pickleball now at Polmaily House! Why not get out and play some pickleball - one of the country's fastest growing sports. We have a newly re-surfaced court and will supply all the equipment needed.
If you would like to play, it is essential that you book a slot with us by contacting us through our email address on our website www.polmailyhouselochness.co.uk. Please also note that there is a maximum of 4 players and children must be closely supervised at all times and stay on the pickleball court and not use any of the other facilities on site. FREE TENNIS! With a break finally in the weather, and just in time for Wimbledon, our tennis court at Polmaily House is now finally finished! The court has been resurfaced and re-painted (still some to finish off) and is now ready for use.
As well as guests staying at the house using the court, we would also like to invite locals to use the court free of charge. If you would like to use the court, then please email us at [email protected] or [email protected] to make the necessary arrangements. You MUST pre-book a time and date with us and not simply turn up. Also, there must be a maximum of 4 players. People using the court must wear appropriate footwear and not let younger children wander around the grounds or use any of the other facilities on site. Sessions will be allocated in one hour blocks. Please bring your own equipment if at all possible. We look forward to seeing you on court! New balls, please!

IT'S BBQ TIME AT POLMAILY HOUSE!
We all love a good barbecue, especially when we are on our holidays and now at Polmaily House, Loch Ness, a great barbecue is guaranteed whatever the weather!
Our new weatherproof pergola covers 2 brand new 6 burner gas barbecues and there is also seating for your whole party with beautiful views of the sunset in the glen.
The use of the bbqs comes at no extra cost to guests and all tools and a food prep area are all also provided. You just need the food, some hungry friends and family and the chef! We even provide the apron.
The area has already proved hugely popular with our guests and it also keeps our kitchen cleaner - a win win!
We do still have one or two dates available this summer if you would like to get your friends and family together for an unforgettable stay in a beautiful and historic country home and show off your sills on the bbq.

I MUST MAKE THESE COMPETITIONS HARDER!! Some great suggestions - and some terrible ones! That will teach me for not checking my Facebook more regularly - we have THREE winners already! Congratulations to Amanda, Callie and Emma. All three ladies win a prize! Just send your address to me privately via our website and I will send your prize to you. The answer was - CURLING. A lot of the houses in this part of the Highlands had their own curling rinks built (ponds which froze in the winter) and held regular fixtures against the other houses in the area. Winters were even colder back then so taking to the ice on your own pond for a game of curling became a regular thing. For a BONUS PRIZE - what would have been a good name for the Polmaily House curling team? Look forward to hearing your suggestions.

COMPETITION TIME! As I was passing our frozen pond today it reminded me of an interesting fact that came from a knowledgeable local historian. She explained that the pond here at Polmaily House, like at many other similar houses in the Highlands, was built for a specific reason. Why do you think such ponds were constructed? First correct answer wins a tin of Scottish shortbread!
Any incorrect but amusing answers may also be the recipient of a prize! CLUE - Consider the pond's dimensions. GOOD LUCK!

IT'S NEARLY CHRISTMAS! Our most recent group of guests enjoying a pre-Christmas Christmas at Polmaily house had a wonderful time, taking full advantage of all the facilities both on-site and a little further afield. What is more Christmassy than hand feeding the only herd of wild reindeer in the UK? Our visitors made sure that the reindeers were well fed just in case Santa needs to call on them for some extra help pulling his sleigh in the next few days! A super day out for all the family (8 yrs+) at any time of year - but especially at CHRISTMAS!! Tomorrow you can see them enjoying their Christmas Ceilidh at Polmaily House.

CALLING ALL CYCLISTS! Congratulations to all who completed the Loch Ness Etape last Sunday. The conditions were testing to say the least, especially if you took more than 7 hours to complete the 106km course like me! The climb out of Fort Augustus was a mammoth challenge but the bagpiper at the top of the climb was quite an inspiration (even though I didn't actually see him as he had packed up and was going home by the time I got there!)
Polmaily House would be the perfect place for your cycling group to stay before the event and recover with a nice warm swim in our heated indoor pool afterwards. Now knowing how challenging the race is, we are more than happy to offer a sizeable discount to cyclists using the house as a base for the 2024 event and are happy to offer a two night (usually 3 night minimum) stay for that weekend. We can accommodate groups of up to 24. PS Anyone want to buy a second hand bike??

Probably the most beautiful bike ride in the world?! Even though we have now been at Polmaily house for 5 years, we are still finding some real hidden gems. With today's weather being so good, I thought that I must get the bike out to get some miles in ready for the fast approaching Loch Ness Etape bike ride. I was told that Glen Strathfarrar would prove good riding. I have ridden a lot both in the UK and in France and Portugal, but the 17 mile ride from Struy to the Monar Dam was truly one of, if not the most beautiful bike ride I have ever ridden. The scenery and wildlife were amazing and the road, which is closed to traffic much of the year and on Tuesdays and Wednesday mornings in the summer (but still open to cyclists), was smooth and very well maintained. Whilst there are numerous off road routes in the area, this ride was a real pleasure for those of us with road bikes. If you are staying at Polmaily House and would like to take enjoy this most memorable bike ride yourselves, bike hire from Inverness can be arranged for you. You will not regret it!

Just had our first group of skiers stay with us and they looked to have an amazing time! We thank them for their lovely reviews and these amazing photos! They skied at Aviemore (an hour drive away) which got a huge thumbs up from beginners and experienced skiers alike!

Nevis, Glencoe, Lecht and Glenshee all within driving distance too, making Polmaily House a great base for a UK skiing trip!

A little late for Christmas but I know that our soon to arrive group of skiers will be delighted with today's considerable snowfall. Our first group of skiers look like they will be in luck and will be enjoying wonderful ski conditions just a little way from Polmaily House at either Aviemore or Fort William. The snow did arrive a little unexpectedly but is perfect for those thinking of staying at Polmaily House for their skiing trip, especially with so little snow in much of Europe.
We will post images and videos of the forthcoming ski party to see if it is something that you may wish to consider in the future. Polmaily House and all its facilities, included indoor heated pool, are open all year round and we will make sure that there is a roaring log fire ready to greet you back after your exciting day on the slopes.
The grounds do look beautiful in the snow but we now have some clearing to do as the snow is too deep for our Westies to go out for a wee!
