With programmes ranging from senior-phase school partnerships to higher education, we help educate learners to build their futures and change their careers. We strive to equip all members of our college community with the skills, knowledge, and practical experience they need to get ahead, whether that’s moving further into education or going onto employment. We offer an excellent further-education

experience, with a range of courses and qualifications available to suit our students’ needs, whether they’re embarking on their first career or looking to transition into a new one, delivered by teaching and support staff who care about what they do – evidenced by satisfaction among our students as 97% of our further education and 94% of our higher education students indicated that they were satisfied with their college experience. We’re here to help people develop the skills they need to take them to where they want to go, and to help enterprises innovate and grow, and to help build a better future for the communities we serve. Our curriculum areas offer a broad range of further and higher education pathways across 8 subject areas, from traditional subjects to new, with a real focus on care, enterprise, digital, and green energy skills development. With a first-class research and innovation centre at our Dumfries Campus, we’re able to promote a green approach in education, research, and business, to devise, develop, and distribute the skills that are needed to operate the technology that will ensure a greener, cleaner, and better future for all. As a highly-attractive destination for those interested in learning about and developing skills in green energy, driven by our Green Skills Academy, we set students on the road to fulfilling, rewarding, and productive jobs in their future. Going forward, the academy will further develop the curriculum and other aspects of our offering in the areas of green energy, sustainable construction, and green transportation to help students further maximise their potential in these key areas. We're also proud to have been the recipients of many varied awards that reflect the learning and opportunities we offer, including being crowned the UK & Ireland's Sustainability Institution of the Year for 2020. At Dumfries and Galloway College, you will find a community that is proud of what we have done and where we are going. If you choose to study with us, you’ll pick up the skills you need to help you get one step ahead.

Last night, we hosted our first event since becoming a Chartered Management Institute accredited training centre, welcoming Renee R***r, Iain Tinniswood and Peter Deakin from the CMI to the college.

The session, Empowering Managers - Inspiring Leaders, considered the 'accidental manager' scenario, where people are promoted to a managerial role without the appropriate leadership and development - a situation reflective of 82% of Scotland's managers.

The presentations were informative, and the interactive panel discussion was insightful, with excellent feedback from those who attended and acknowledging the value of learning and development provided to employers and employees.

We would like to hear your views on any future development and networking events we may run - what topics would interest you?

📢Plan ahead!

If you're travelling to our Dumfries campus next week, please allow additional time for your journey to college.

There have been road works at the junction of Bankend Road where it meets St Michael Street.
Temporary traffic lights are in use to control traffic, causing significant disruption and we believe they will still be in place early next week.

We're looking forward to welcoming staff and students back after the holidays!

Graduates last week got to hear an inspiring and insightful speech from our Honorary Fellow of 2024, Heather Hall, who co-founded The Usual Place 🌟🌟

What an honour!

Heather Hall, the Co-Founder and former Chief Executive of The Usual Place received an Honorary Fellowship at Dumfries and Galloway College Graduation 2024 last week.

Heather gave a speech about the support and mentorship she has received throughout her career since she started out as a student nurse aged 17, and how this has helped shape her own career development and the values that have underpinned all her work.

A fundamental principle across the span of 40 years’ experience in Health and Social Care, in the statutory, voluntary and private sectors, delivering direct support, developing, commissioning, regulating and inspecting services, is her belief in the power of ‘unconditional positive regard’.

We are delighted to see Heather being honoured as, here at The Usual Place, we experience daily the power of living the values she set up, they run through every aspect of our work and often result in extraordinary transformations in the individuals who train here as well as the staff, mentors and volunteers.

Congratulations Heather! This is so well deserved!

Everyone is of equal worth
Everyone can contribute to their community
Everyone should be treated with dignity and respect

AIMS Project Bedroom Engineers Course

Have you ever had an idea and thought, if I had access to people who could make this but then think I don’t have the money to get this made, you give up and a year later you see your very idea being sold on Esty or Amazon.

Well, it’s time to think again. YOU could make this happen from your own bedroom, learn a little about 3D modelling with the various free 3D software out there and then unleash your ideas on a 3D printer.

“I can’t work a 3D printer, it’s too complicated” you say …not anymore!! At AIMS we have a bank of 3D printers that have industrial technology for the “hobbyist” market.

With our help at the AIMS Project, we will give you and introduction to Fusion 360 3D modelling software. Then teach you how to take your model and turn it into a 3D printing file. Then after that your limits are only your imagination.
