In St Andrews today. It was buzzing as always. Took the big camera but the light gave no inspiration. was brilliant and queued down the waterfront. Hoped for surfers 🏄🏼 but was low tide and flat calm. So here’s pics from a few years ago. The jewel in Scotlands crown 👑

We’ll be back supporting the Broughty Ferry Lifeboat - RNLI next year. Hopefully this is as close we’ll get to a rescue this year. The two wee lassies who lost them were fair chuffed to get them back 🤣

Happy Sunday 🤗 Simone (AU1203) and her young calf last summer. Probably the Tays most regular and easily identified Dolphin every summer. She’s been seen numerous times over the winter off the coast of Berwick over the winter. You can also see AU1074 in the background. Can’t wait for the first sighting of their return this year ☺️

Think we’ll take folk up close to the bridge this summer 🚤👀It’s a few days past 145 years since the Tay rail bridge disaster. 59 are known to have died with estimates up to 75 poor souls thought to have actually perished. Does anyone have family ties to the disaster? Stories passed down through generations? Please tell us about them in the comments. Love to hear any stories/ knowledge people have about that fateful night as well 🤗

Spotlight on the ‘Larick Beacon’ or ‘Pile Lighthouse’ as locally known. It’s a structure that I’ll never tire of shooting. Here’s some of our pics from last year and you’ll find some further information in this short blog https://www.saltdogmarine.com/blog/the-larick-beacon

Who would like to buy original picture’s on canvas of the Tay Estuary Dolphins? We’d like to get a feel for demand as we need to make an order tomorrow. These are 60/40cm’s and would cost £59.99 delivered locally to Dundee. We have some other pics as well which we’ll do depending on the take up. Banana for scale(didn’t realise how much they cost 😟). Please let us know in comments if you’d like to buy pic 1,2 or 3 🤗

Who watched ‘Secrets of the spy whale’ last night on BBC2? The story of Valdimir the escaped Russian spy whale. Pretty incredible story and thoroughly reccomend. It’s a sad story with Lots of talk and film of the training of cetaceans over the last 60 odd years for nefarious purposes. Yet another tale of humans doing things that should never have been done.
Belugas are incredible, social, intelligent animals. I’d like to think we do better these days but unfortunately I know that’s not the case 🙁

Silvery fins on the silvery Tay including ‘Rheum’ and ID 1074 who doesn’t have a name. 1074 was named Nonammy as our passenger dolphin ID cards had ‘No name’ by some brilliant kids on a trip and I think that’s going to stick 😏

Where do they 🐬🐬🐬 go when they’re not here I’m frequently asked🤷‍♂️
Answer? They go where the fish are 🐟 🐟🐟
Over the last week they’ve been spotted at Seaton sluice(see last pic) in NE England. They’re frequent visitors every winter in that area. Spotted last week there was the summer star of the Tay estuary ‘Simone’ as well as ID1074. These beasties cover huge distances over short periods of time and are thriving off our East coast.
Thanks to Jo @ North East Cetacean Project who we share info with throughout the year for keeping us informed 😁

📸 6th of August this year 😍
Taken a few hundred yards from the NE tip of Tentsmuir Nature reserve(4 mins from Broughty Ferry with us 🚤). Only a few months ago but seems like a lifetime. Please check the comments to follow our Winter ❄️ business 🛠️
Hope you all have that Friday feeling 🥳

We angered the FB gods yesterday by sharing our other business. This set of pics with Tayport in the back from early August will hopefully appease them being very much in line with what we do over here 🙏
I’ll tag our other passion in the comments which we hope will interest you as well but in a much less dolphiny way 🛠️😄🤣
We’d love you to support us 😊

That’s a wrap 🎬 as they say. Long one but we’d love you to take a min 🤗👇
We’d hoped to get out over the October Hols but the weather just hasn’t been good enough. We’d like to say thank you to all the brilliant customers we’ve had out on the water. Many of you have seen dolphins, many haven’t. We’d like to think though that you all felt welcomed, treated with respect and every effort was made to give you an experience to remember 🥰
As a business it’s been a toughie. Broken engines( £20k cost🥺) and bad weather mean we haven’t made any money and that can’t continue. Knowing what we contribute to local tourism, publicity of Dundee and just the pride we see and feel from locals who realise what incredible beauty and biodiversity there is on their doorstep is a bloody good motivator though. We’ll certainly be back next year but I think we’ll mix it up a bit 😏
Meanwhile we’re building a completely different business to be launched shortly. When you see it if you could follow and share we’d be very grateful but even more importantly if you can use us we can survive to get you out on the water for more incredible experiences ☺️
