Gazelle Travel started business in 1976 and now, thirty five years on, it is one of the UK's leading flight only suppliers. The company identified an ethnic (Asian) gap or niche in the market and persuaded BOAC (now British Airways) to bring into service a new route (Heathrow to Islamabad). Gazelle put the first passenger on the inaugural flight on 1st April 1976.The company is now one of the top
revenue earners in the North of England for airlines such as , Emirates, China Airlines and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and has access to over 140 airlines. Historically Gazelle Travel specialised in ethnic niche markets but realised that it had much more potential by selling direct to the public because of the low cost fares it was offering to Travel agents throughout the UK. On the back of this Gazelle Travel now supports retail worldwide travel at its head office in Bradford. Gazelle travel services every departure point in the UK to all worldwide destinations. In December 2006 Gazelle Travel (Newcastle) opened an office in the historic university city of Durham. In December 2010 due to expansion opportunities at the Durham office, this allowed the merging of the Newcastle flight department with the ground handling department at Durham allowing a greater choice of holidays to be offered to clients. The company has a twofold objective, firstly, to constantly develop its products and markets and secondly, to offer an even better service.

Here are some photos from Chris’ day trip to Amsterdam earlier this week, organised by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Newcastle International Airport.
Highlights included the newly refurbished Aspire Lounge at Newcastle, amazing KLM service including wine, beer and snacks (even on a short haul flight!), lunch by a canal in Amsterdam and a visit to This Is Holland, a virtual thrill ride over the Netherlands. Time in KLM’s Crown Lounge (of which there are two in Amsterdam Schiphol Airport) was a relaxing way to end the day before flying back to Newcastle.
