Thank you to Vivienne and Jayne for coming on the Howardian Hills walk today at Welburn. Despite a grey day we had a lovely walk. We spotted 2 hornets and a devil's coachman, and remarkably we saw some poppies too. There's just one more Howardian Hills walk left. It will be on the first Saturday in November at 10 30 and will be in Wass Woods.

Thank you to the North York Moors National Park and the wonderful staff at Sutton Bank National Park Centre for letting me put on the Ramble and Rhyme sessions today and thanks to the fabulous participants. We didn't let a little bit of rain put us off and we were treated to lovely views on the afternoon walk. I was very impressed with the young lads' nature knowledge and their poems.

You can book via the North York Moors website for my Ramble and Rhyme sessions on the 3rd of September. There is going to be a morning session for children and an afternoon one for adults. If you or your child have always fancied writing a poem this is for you and we're going to be having a lovely walk ( and in the case of the kids- a craft session as well). The children will go on a short nature treasure hunt. I am doing a longer walk for the adults ( about 4 miles) with stunning views and some poems along the way. Click on the link for further information and to book.

Celebrate Mindful Month with us and feel invigorated in nature with a number of events and activities that will rejuvenate your spirits. Here are some activities to get you started.

I have spent the last few days deciding on which walks to do for my Ramble and Rhyme events at Sutton Bank on the 3rd of September. It's no easy task because there are so many to choose from but I have finally made a decision. I am looking forward to showing people the beauty of Sutton Bank as well as helping them to be creative and enjoy poetry. To book your place go to the North York Moors National Park's website, where you will also find all the other events I am doing to celebrate .

Sam and I enjoyed running another nature-based crafts session for EDCCA and were very impressed with the wonderful artwork the children produced. Thanks to everyone who attended. We will be running the next one on Halloween so expect beastly bug boxes and spooky spiders.

As well as doing my normal walks next month I am also trying something new. As well as a mindfulness practitioner I am also a published poet. Join me for the first Ramble and Rhyme sessions on the 3rd of September at Sutton Bank Visitor Centre. I will be doing a session for children in the morning and for adults in the afternoon. The sessions will be a mindful walk followed by a poetry ( and in the case of the children's session ,also a craft) workshop. If you have always wanted to write poetry but have been unsure what to write about or where to start this is the session for you. Full details are on the website at https://www.northyorkmoors.org.uk/visiting/whats-on/mindful-month. You can book for the sessions through their website.

Barn Owl flight feathers are covered in a thin hair-like structure that traps air within the feather surface. This helps to maintain a smooth airflow across the wings and thereby avoid stalling at very low airspeeds.
The foremost wing feather (the 10th primary) also has a row of tiny hooks that help to deaden the sound of air hitting the wings’ leading edge! Almost-silent flight enables the birds to hear the tiny sounds produced by their small mammal prey and approach them undetected.

I had a lovely walk today with Eleanor and Belle at Caulkleys Bank and Nunnington. Although we had a bit of drizzle it actually got out quite warm, and we were treated to some beautiful views. The next walk is at 11.30 on the 9th of September at Beacon Bank at Husthwaite.
