Clarence Boatyard and East Cowes Sailing Club have been a massive part of director Robert Walker's life since 1991 when he played with boats in the club with his dad.
When he was 15, he restored a gaff cutter with his granddad (who would be 95 today if he was still alive) at Clarence Boatyard in 2002. Little did he know then that 22 years later, he would run his business in three of Clarence Boatyard's units, continuing his interests in working on classic and modern yachts.
Rob feels very lucky to have been raised in East Cowes and to have had the opportunity to play his part in keeping this old boatyard alive.

Quite often boat owners come to us and ask how much to re-spray my boat and quite often the cost of a re-spray can be more than the owner was expecting. This Sadler 29 showcases the skills that painters have when it comes to valeting and repairs, giving the owner a lot of satisfaction in the boat without having to invest in a re-spray. We carried out a deep clean, removed the damaged vinyl's, polished the hull and superstructure , sanded the rubbing streak and handrails, treated the wood work, carried out gel repairs, and finally had the new vinyl's supplied and fitted by Signpost Express.

We are now fitting a new forehatch and winches to this Sadler.

Ocean Coats would like to thank the Royal Yacht Squadron for inviting us to their Careers Fair today. It was a lovely day and we hope we have provided knowledge to young people who are interested in the marine industry and hopefully inspired others to enquire about a marine career. They have certainly learned how to tie a Bowline knot!

Gladiator TP52 refit!

This winter we have been carrying out the refit of Gladiator TP52. I am particularly proud of the young team we put together for the fairing and very happy with the results. We have repainted the hull in an Awlgrip SE system spraying the Gladiator graphics on the transom, the black, silver and red stripe followed by Awlcraft 3000 clear. We also carried out re-skidding the deck and component resprays. Big thanks to the team you have really proven that there is some good craftmanship here in Cowes. Tiran Benjamin (25), Lucy Wales (21), Matt Chaney (23), Ashton Penney(19), Jack Nutter(21), Jacque Miller (20), Ciaran Peterson (17), Ryan Peterson (15), Ivana Saric (25), Katie Blakeley (30), Colin Lamplough (35) and Robert Walker (36). The boat has recently been put back on her keel at Cowes Yacht Haven and are now getting ready for the season.

On Thursday 14th and Friday 15th Katie and Tiran went on spray painting seminar at the International Painting Centre. They learnt a lot about AkzoNobel's products. We would like to thank the Marineware team for the opportunity and was great to meet other painters across the country. We hope they all have a lovely Christmas and New Year.

REPAIR SERVICES, INSURANCE WORK Ocean Coats can repair almost anything whether it is faded gel coat, damaged paintwork or star cracking.

Here is a great example of our repair work. There was minor impact damage with visible cracking. We ground back a large area and relaminated, we then fill, faired, primed and top coated in an Awlgrip system. The blend out was fantastic resulting in a completely invisible repair.

If you've thought the river Medina has been quiet this summer? That is because the Ocean Coats launch has been having a refit. Here is the Lister engine ready to go back in the boat. If you scroll through the pictures at the end you will see a picture of the topsides of the launch which have been primed and topcoated with Awlgrip by Libby (Apprentice) and Tiran (boatbuilder/trainee painter).

Coach House Re-Spray on a Bestevaer 53 in an Awlgrip system.

We built a shrink wrap deck tent which gave us great control of the environment. We carried out a re-fit on the aluminium bodywork using wash primer, hull guard extra, 545 primer finished with Awlcraft 2000 Stars and Stripes.

Not a work post, however, after our post from Medina Marching Band Corps of Drums rehearsal on Thursday Night. Myself and Katie who are in the band went to London and performed at the Excel Centre on Saturday with a 350 strong American Band as well as 4 other UK bands for London Band week. To top off our weekend we performed at Hampton Court and the Corps of Drums entered a drum battle competition.

Not only did we win the battle, we won in the final against the University of Tennessee - Pride of the Southland!! Fantastic weekend with a great band!

Had a Cougar hanging out in our shed this winter.

We are very excited at Ocean Coats to have launched our powerboat refit we have been carrying out. This is the first racing powerboat we have ever done and its been a great contrast to our usual racing yachts and classic yachts. We will be sharing lots more to do with this powerboat as we follow it through its racing. What makes Rob very proud is the fact that the newest members of the team have carried out a large portion of the work which involved boatbuilding to the transom and structural repairs, plus all the fairing. This gave Rob a good opportunity to teach masking skills as all the gold and silver is done in paint. Keep an eye out on here for further posts coming soon. KMO Marine Ltd Cowes Marine Electrical

TP 52 Keel ready for delivery

TP52 Jolt 3 respray. She came in with a grey boot top and graphics in vinyl. We have carried out a full re-fair and replaced the vinyl graphics with painted graphics. The graphic has been flattened back and polished in order to lose the sharp edges creating less drag. The non-skid has also been re-sprayed and repairs in the cockpit plus pedestals re-sprayed.

We are currently painting components, boom and bow sprit.

This has worked out well for team Jolt allowing the crew to be home for the winter with the boat in a dry shed. They also had their container in the yards car park.

We are very pleased to provide our services to TP52 Jolt 3.

Well that's the first time we have had a boat arrive by barge. TP52 Jolt 3 will be coming in to Ocean Coats shed on Friday Morning for a full Awlgrip respray with painted graphics. Thanks for the efforts from Island Crane Hire, Williams Shipping and Cowes Harbour Commission

Quarter Tonner Run Away Bus for a winter refit. We carried out hull and deck repairs. The hull and below the waterline was painted in Awlgrip's SE system, with the deck gloss areas in Awlcraft 2000 then a Awlgrip G-line non-skid. This project was a great opportunity for one of our newest members of staff Tiran to have a go on the gun during the priming stages. We also worked with Marineware Ltd. using the newest 3M polishing system Famous Finish VOC
