(12)

Hi and welcome to Warrior II Sport Fishing, located in Looe, Cornwall. I do all types of sea fishing, but specialise in Shark fishing. I have over 30 years experience, and currently there are five British Records for catches onboard my boat. I am passionate about shark fishing, and shark conservation, operating a catch and release scheme as part of an international shark tagging scheme. I also do

reef fishing trips and we catch an array of fish from Cornwall, including Conger, Ling, Po***ck, Whiting, Cod, Mackerel, Wrasse, Bass etc etc. Drop me an email if you are interested in what I do, or have An enquiry about fishing trips.

Hi all, hope everyone is good and either thinking about what a great season we’re having or still looking forward to you visit with us. The weather in August has not been the best and has cost us several days ashore 🤨. Well, we have got out and had some great days sharking (still waiting for our turn for a monster) but there has been a few reported so we are hopeful we may be next in line.
Drew and Tom had their annual visit and days fishing and their trophy was taken (for a change) by Drew 👏👏.
Buster and John managed 19 between them on their 3 days and we’ve just had Andy and Lucy down this weekend just gone who had sharks but the fishing went a bit quiet in the afternoons, they still managed 7 over two days and a double hook up got the adrenaline pumping a little as Andy’s fish turned out to be a 68” male that fought like a lot larger fish. A few days rest and recovery this week forced on us by the unseasonably strong winds.
Here’s a few piccys to whet your whistles 😂🦈🎣.
Oh and you will see we managed to remove a very nasty packing band from a lovely Blue and then the very next fish (stumpy) had had her top lobe of her tail bitten off !!!

So Steve went home and he was followed by more lovely anglers/clients/friends, first was Sally and Martin with their doggie “Willow”
They had 3 days aboard Warrior II, 1st day had 3 sharks inc an 80lb er, 2nd day 4 sharks and Sally battled a 90 + lb er and 3rd day we spent a very pleasant day on the reefs with a nice selection of species including a surprise John Dory ! I was a little concerned to how Willow would take to the sharks coming aboard to be measured and tagged but took it all in her stride and hardly flinched, bless her. And so the father and son team, Drew and Tom arrived to do battle. Every year they go head to head on the longest measure of blue sharks. In previous years young Tom has come out the victor but it turned around this year and father Drew was the victor and between the two of them managed 19 sharks with Drew taking the honours including a very nice PB today with a 73.5” blue estimated 85lb. Well done guys 👏👏🦈🦈.
Well a very well earned day off tomorrow with a bit of an unsettled weeks weather ahead. Will post again soon. Keep that rod bent 😁

Here we are almost at the end of July already ! It’s turning out to be a fantastic season with lots of sharks !! Steve has just finished his 5 days and is normally accompanied by his daughter Phoebe who , due to last minute change of plans couldn’t come along. He has done brilliantly with 40 sharks in 5 days inc one to equal his 16 lb record and another just missing the 50 lb record. Had a nice surprise catch by our own Dave K, a gorgeous 11 lb Hake yesterday!, I must just say congratulations to the Swallow II crew on their 150 lb male Blue yesterday 👏👏👏. Well gotta go, tight lines and keep em coming.

We’ve had a few days out now since the festival and the lovely Whistance family 2(home and Dutch contingent) , our own Dave has had a couple of days (which yours truly managed a nice one aswell) and he very kindly did the skippering bit for me for a change 👍. Had Steve start today and besides a the bloody terrible weather he got off to a flier, with a total of 13 sharks including a few ‘August’ sharks, (small and a nice qualifier 70 x 29”) here are a few piccies

Hi all, just thought I’d better post to keep everyone up to date. Although I haven’t taken many photo’s as we seem to be busy at the crucial moments. So we’ve done plenty of trips since the last post not least the SACGB annual Shark Festival last week. We fished up well on the Wednesday with a nice 5 sharks then the Thursday let us down a bit with a day saving 1 shark but came back strongly on Friday with a good 6 including a nice 90lb er to Stephen D which also won him the pool on the last day. 109 shark’s were caught over the 3 days and the weather was kind.
Going back to the month of June it produced good numbers of blues and normally scores of 1s and 2s were replaced by higher scores most days, us managing a healthy 26 sharks over 12 early season trips. The weather forecasts have been giving us the wobbles but as we’ve got closer they do seem to improve, let’s hope that continues 🤞🤞. A few better sized fish starting to show now - keep em coming🦈🦈🦈. Did a little inshore trip today, nice to see so many different species (14 ish) in 4 hrs. Here are a few action shots I did manage and I promise to grab a few more ‘fishy’ piccys next time , tight lines, the Warrior II crew 🦈🎣

We’ve got our Steve down for his first go at the toothy critters and his first day today. He had action 40mins after we stopped shortly followed by another a bit better size then a 3rd just after slack water. Lots of whiting for bait and after a 10 mins had plenty for the day. We then had a quiet couple of hours but number 4 arrived and soon had us at action stations !. Although the day started with drizzly conditions it brightened up to be a very nice afternoon and a great start for Steve. Only a few piccies and certainly not the biggest shark of the day. A bonus on the way home, managed to grab a little video of these little beauties. 👍

So ——- we’ve started proper 🦈🦈🦈🦈🦈. Away early tide this morning with Paul and Dave fishing, mackerel still scarce but managed a bait up and although hardly a breath of breeze - floats going around the boat the first shark arrived just after slack water and was followed by a steady little stream of blues to the boat and finished with 5 with the exception of 1 (dropped off at door) all tagged and released the best measuring 67” to fork (estimated around 65lb) . Gorgeous weather so roll on tomorrow’s trip out 🙏🏼🙏🏼🤞🎣.

On another subject Helen finally talked me into an overnight Carp trip up to our local fishery, Bake Lakes, so on just about my last weekend free, up we went and set up camp ! First fish to Helen a lovely 19lb carp. Then I managed a lovely ——— Cormorant ! Finally got it in, Helen volunteered as she had some neoprene gloves to remove my hook from its foot. Attempting to get near the thing the bank collapsed and her right foot went in the water up to her knee 😮bless her, then the bloody thing bit right through her glove ! Twice!! Managing to draw blood! Finally we freed the bu**er and Tony the bailiff carried out first aid with anti bac and plasters.
We retired about 10.30pm but the bite alarm woke us at midnight on her gear , this was our first fish in the darkness and a nice 3.5lb bream was easily dealt with. Asked if she wanted a photo was an abrupt NO 😂. Back to our bunks. 2.45am and my alarm woke us and this time my first ever 20+ carp slid over the net. With the lamp held between her knees and the phone /camera she took a picture (me still half asleep) . All quiet after that until just before 10.00am when I had a screaming run which resulted in a cracking carp that went a tad under 28lb. A very successful first and not the last 24hr carp trip. Home and bath and roast dinner. Happy days.

So my lovelies, it’s been quite a while since we had much to post about but the time of year we all wait and long for is just about upon us 🦈🦈🦈. We have done a few reef fishing trips with varied success but it is now time to get the shark gear out and see what has arrived off our lovely shores. We have our first go day after tomorrow (Wednesday) and over the next couple of weeks we do have a little availability. If you would like an early season go for a Shark get in touch and we’ll pray the weather gods are kind. I will post Wednesday/Thursday with hopefully good news 🤞🙏🏼🦈. Here’s a few photos of our antics over the last few weeks

Well here we are again ! Another one done and a successful one at that. We finished the shark season with a healthy total of sharks and a good ratio of qualifiers (75lb and over) including a number over 100lb so 👏👏👏well fished all of you 😁. The new season (October) got off to a flier with Steve managing 22 blues to himself in a single day 🎉. We have left Warrior II in the water this winter so anyone within driving distance (short notice) we can get out if a fine day pops up so just text me that your interested and I’ll pop you on the list for contact. As is the norm for us at this time of year I have posted several photo’s of some of the days and anglers that have come down and fished with us but obviously we can’t get you all on this post but well done to all and let’s hope for another great season next year. All that leaves me to do is wish each and every one of you a very Happy Christmas and a safe, happy and a healthy 2024. Best Fishes, Pete and Dave, 🎣🎣🍺🍺👍👍

04/10/2023

Wow !! What a start to the 23/24 shark season, it’s only the 4th of October and we stayed in for weather yesterday and have managed 40 sharks in 3 days fishing with only 1 angler each day. So our own Dave has been out on 2 of his own days so Sunday had 11, then Mon. had 7 with the 1st qualifying shark of the season at 2pm, then a day in due to strong winds Tuesday. Steve then started on his own today and achieved a mega day on his own, fishing 2 rods but mostly 1 as the other gets cleared out the way when we have ‘fish on !’ catching and releasing 22 sharks today. He is back out on Saturday and Sunday and hoping for maybe a bit larger fish or two 🙏🏼🤞. We have another couple of guys got the boat now for a couple of days so we’ll see what happens. As you’ll notice I got the ‘multi shark’ flags showing 2 x 10 and 2 singles 🙄.
We do have a couple of places next Tuesday which by the forecast looks like the weather maybe changing from Wednesday on. Give me a msg or bell if you’re up for a late in the year trip. Here’s a few piccys. 👍🎣🎉

Well the weather is certainly playing it’s part not to finish this years shark season (last day of September) with a bang 😟. Been weathered in now for 5 days and the Fishing recently had not been up to normal September standards, no big numbers or the larger specimens we hope for. Fingers crossed we can get out very soon and right some wrongs. We have had successes and a few highlights , Michael, Chris, Steve and Brett all having decent fishing. Then the rather large Scad and nice Bass of Ian’s .
On a different note a few of our anglers have mentioned our Hoodies, we are just changing supplier so just let me know if you’re interested and I will give you details price and different quality available. Here are a few photos from recent trips.

It’s been a really good month - August for Sharking down here .
Several really cracking sharks and the numbers have been good as well. We have had some old and some new customers down and it’s been great to see you all. Most have had good success and the weather has certainly improved from the misery of losing nearly half of July. Yesterday we were out and a smallish Blue came up around the boat, I saw immediately that it had something around its neck so it was imperative that we caught her and tried to help. She took the bait and after a short tussle we boarded her. It turned out to be a plastic pull off seal from a plastic tub, as you can see it had been on a while and partly covered the gill slits. I hope she swims free and feels better for our brief encounter 🤞. A few shots of our August visitors- human and sharks 👍😁

Well, they say fortune favours the brave ? Well we braved the weather this morning to take a very ‘old customer’ Sharky Mart out. He chartered Warrior II for his last sharking trip before he hangs up his ‘big gear’ for the retirement it deserves and he did it in style. After a very lumpy ride out we stopped and after an hour started catching, the 2nd fish was probably the best measuring just short of a ‘qualifier’ 70” we always say a photo of any shark should be on the deck or in the water but Mart said the little blue in the photos was the smallest he’d ever caught so we had a photo of him and his little mate 😁. We managed 13 in all including a small Porbeagle second to last. If you’re gonna retire the make the last go a goodun, well done old mate . The first time Martin fish with me was way back in 1989 so a lot of rubby dubby has been shaken away since then. Well done mate. Here’s a few piccies.
I’ve also included what we took out of a lovely 45 lb Blue the other day Stainless hook (with very large Barb ) attached to doubled wire, attached to 400 lb mono (Euro long liner) , hope she feels a deal better without that trailing. 👍

02/08/2023

Hi everyone, hope you are all better than this bloody weather !
So it seems to have been a week of messages of ‘sorry to have to cancel but ———‘ so we seem to have a little space in the diary (very rare occurrence 😁) Anyone wanting sharking, have a look at these dates and see if they are of any use to you. August 21st (Mon) thru to 25th (Fri) then ( and more chance of a Thresher) Sept 19th thru to Sunday 24th. If interested either msg or phone 07989395360. Tight lines, Pete n Dave

I know I posted just the other day but the feeling of de ja vois !
So last year I was twice nearly hit by French Trawlers, well towards the end of the day today we had this French man come directly at us, at the time Steve had a nice shark on and sounded horn several times but he kept coming. I started the engine and he was still on a direct collision course so I put Warrior II in gear to jog clear of the pending collision. I was dealing with the shark at the door with the French Trawler about 20 metres away. Shame to end a very good day (6 sharks inc 1 near 100 lb.

27/07/2023

So here we are almost July done and dusted so let’s start with the awful weather !! 10 days cancelled through the poor weather and a lot of trips near our “lumpy limit’ 😩with the weekend cancelled and beyond not the July we were hoping for. The last couple of weeks when we could get out the fishing has mostly been good with more (a higher percentage) qualifiers being caught, tagged and released than normal- a great sign. Hopefully August will bring a change in our weather fortunes and we’ll have a settled period. Just the last couple of days some boats have had some dreaded red algae on the lines but it does seem patchy so let’s hope we’re not bothered by that again. What with Billy’s PB and Steve’s daughter Phoebe qualifying and several new members there has definitely been some ‘highs’. So out tomorrow then looks like stuck in for weather (again) till next Tuesday or Wednesday. Tight lines , here’s a few piccies

13/07/2023

So it’s been a month or so since I posted and what with a resounding success of a festival and the fishing sort of settled (not the weather). Some cracking sharks caught in festival 2 x 140+, 1 x 130+ male & some more quality 100 + not forgetting the Thresher from Bee Cool on the first day. Since then there’s been some of my regular anglers down , braving the weather for mixed results but the today was my old mate Billy Whistance’s last day of his annual hols and we always hope that he’ll catch a cracker aboard Warrior II but today the prayers were answered with a nice little warm up fish of 35lb ish, then the main event of a beautiful female fish of 76 x 34 which equates on formula to 110lb (est) then to finish off another lovely blue of 70lb ish. Bill twisted his knee today which made life on board very difficult but he’s home now and is hopefully resting up. Congratulations and a massive well done , it’s taken a very long time to get you one but we got there in the end. On a P. S. We have one place available this coming Wednesday if anyone is interested. Here are a few pics of our fishing antics. Our own Dave hooked into a Thresher for 1 & 3/4 hours but as he was light lining at the time it didn’t end well but a few days before on his first attempt has entered a fish for the vacant 50lb class C & R record. Let’s hope the weather improves and the blues arrive in good numbers. Cheers, Team Warrior II 👍🎣💯

We’ll that has been a trying week to say the least ! Started shark trips last Tuesday after trouble after trouble with Warrior II. This week this time last year and we were catching decent numbers of blues out of Looe so sort of expected and hoped for similar results but no ☹️. They have kept trying our patience until today when at around 12 midday Mick had a run on the middle inside line and fought a beautiful female blue shark to the boat. We boarded her as she had gulped the hook down and this enabled me to remove, measure and return the very welcome said shark to the sea as to her swimming strongly away. Hopefully this is the start to the welcoming of these lovely fish to our part of the world and the start of seeing lots of sharky experiences. 👍👍🎣

So we started a few weeks ago and have done a few reef fishing trips since, then Wednesday had a gearbox problem and have been in waiting for a solenoid which arrived today. After fitting said part all is good to go again and will be very pleased to resume normal service 😁. I do have spaces Mon, Tues and Wed so if you fancy a trip reef fishing while the weather is nice, get in touch. Here are a few photos from Wed.

18/12/2022

So here we are at Christmas 2022, Warrior II is out the water, we’ve managed a week away in warmer climes and have started 1 or 2 jobs on the boat in preparation for the spring of 2023.
I’ve said it before but this season has had it’s ups and downs but on the whole has been - not the best but overall successful. Sincere thanks to all that have managed to get down and fish with us and let’s hope for a steadier season next year. I have included some of the ‘good times’ photos and my apologies if you are not in any of this bunch. Couple of the ‘Frenchies’ that tried to run us down 😮 and failed. What with Steve’s day of 12 sharks on his own and those nearly ‘Threshers’ were just a few of the exciting days.
I’ve had one or two of my anglers that for one reason or another have hung up their kit which has left a few dates available that would not normally be, so let me know if you fancy a day or two. We are looking at prices for next yr and would like to try and keep the same ish to this year but will do our very best to be very competitive. We wish you all a very Happy Christmas and a safe, healthy and lucky 2023. Tight lines and make sure your gear is cleaned and works well. Team Warrior II

So Warrior II followers that really is that for this year ! We decided to have the girl out of the water for the winter to give her a bit of TLC and we should be able to sleep a bit more soundly through and gales and storms that usually cause sleepless nights !
As we have already posted, a funny old year with probably the best sharks per trip ended up being October as we got out only 9 days but managed 40 sharks with some near misses with 3 Threshers hooked and lost, one after two and a half hours and seeing it under the boat when the hook pulled out.
Steve managed a couple of trophies and a new British record on 16lb line. And although the algae bloom caused too many blanks most enjoyed their sharky exploit’s. Even yours truly managed to have a go and had great sport with an estimated 75lb er. Thanks to all that came down and fished , the diary is open and I will try and get you in as already it’s looking busy.
Here’s to next year, time to overhaul the gear and make sure everything is tip top. Cheers, team Warrior II.

Well October keeps on giving !! The weather is up and down but wow how about this for a few days ! So as already posted, Steve had 12 sharks inc 1 over (hopefully a new 16lb British record), then my old mate Toby had 7 with 3 lost (1 of which was probably a Thresher) then 5 with 1 over to Mick and crew, then a strong offshore wind gave us a blank then yesterday another Thresher on for 2.5 hours, finally got it up under boat and the hook pulled 😮, stopped chasing put bags over at 1 pm had two blues 50 & 60. Started engine to come home and another mega run of 200yds, thought we had another Thresher that turned out to be a lovely 150+ Blue, got hold of the trace to wire it and the coast lock clip gave way, . Then today got Our Dave out for an impromptu day, managed 6 with 1 over (about 85lb) . Out tomorrow and Friday then weather not looking great. Is this what Octobers are gonna fish up like 👍😁

04/10/2022

Wow ! Where did that day come from .? So we’ve got Steve down for his October 3 days, having just lost the last week for our own Daves days for weather the end of this season’s sharking and the beginning of the new season (1st October) all called off. With the prospect that Steve will only get the one day we left Looe around 8am on a lovely fine autumn morning. When you are light lining for sharks you have to take into account the wind and tide and this is what governs what line strength you use on that day or if it is even possible at all. So we stopped about 19 miles from Looe and he proceeded to put out his two rods. He got 1 away and as he put the second out a shark grabbed the bait and the first battle was on !!. By 1pm we had had 6 sharks up to about 70lb. All very happy with the mornings work it went quiet and we had a cuppa and a bite to eat. As if the lunch time buzzer had marked the end to the hour off went the fwd rod again and we were off again !
We finished the day with 12 lovely blue sharks and number 11 proved to be the best of the day and a potential new British record on 16lb line (after a line test and all the required elements being met 🤞. A great day but also our good mate Carl had come to bait fish and hopefully catch a Scad (Horse Mackerel) as he needed one for his species list. All day he tried then finally near the end of the day he successfully achieved his goal 👏. Well done Carl.
A massive congratulations to Steve as he has had terrible fishing luck this yr and so well and truly deserved a red letter day and this was it. Water temp is still good so let’s hope we can continue a great start to the 2022/23 season. Tight lines and good luck to you all. 👍 Team Warrior II, Looe.

Here we are guys and gals, 2 thirds of the way thru the last month of his funny old season here in Looe. Sharking is still not settled and you just can’t call what the day is gonna bring. We’ve had some ups and downs but the last few weeks have seen several quality fish being caught and released aboard Warrior II. We’ve seen Pilot whales, dolphins and the Bluefin Tuna have well and truly arrived and giving us a show most days.
We’ve had PBS for Andy T, Terry P and Chris H. The water temp is still well up and if anyone wants to squeeze in a day before our Blue friends start to swim too far away I still have11, 12, and 13 October available, (maybe start the new season with a fish or two under your belt .?

It’s been a very busy couple of weeks or so, we’ve had old friends and customers say it’s probably their last year sharking, lovely new friends and customers experiencing sharking for the first time. Ladies week - where our lovely ladies out numbered the men sharking. The sharking is not back to quite August normal but at least we are catching. We’ve seen dolphins, our first Bluefin Tuna came out to say Hi and today had a visit from Pilot whales. We managed to remove a long line hook from a blue shark and hope she is pleased to be rid of her unwanted piercing. First weekend off for a long time so time to catch up on lots of much needed jobs. Back to it Tuesday so here are a few piccies.
