Ignore the competition part of the post below (as it finishes today), but check out the photo of the Milky Way taken up on the South Downs near Eastbourne!
You've got to get out even in Winter (in fact, especially in winter) to give ourselves a lift.
I was fishing out on the kayak earlier today and had a couple of seals keep me company. Beats Cash in the Attic for feelgood factor.

There's still time to get your entries into this year's Astrophotography Competition.

Entries close on Wednesday 15 January.

OK, so we've got our resident seals off Eastbourne, dolphins passing by, but also humpback whales??
We are so lucky here on the south coast for wildlife, weather and views to take us to another world.

Eastbourne is named the best location in England for stargazing!

My children only seem to have eyes for Nandos, but can I suggest that you look up occasionally whenever you're down in this marvellous part of the world?

We know that the air is fresh and the light divine, but apparently that might have something to do with the low pollution, which also lends itself to clear skies and bright stars.

Make the most of it and head up to Beachy Head and let our heavenly skies reveal themselves πŸ˜€

The East Sussex spot was praised for its reduced cloud cover, and low air and light pollution.

is fast approaching.

To celebrate, we'll be sharing some of our favourite trees from across the

The first is the 1600-year old Wilmington Yew.

Pre-dating both the Norman Conquest and the church it sits next to, this tree needs all the help it can get.

I know that mushrooms don't count as fauna, but it was difficult not to splat them this morning out on my morning walk with office dog Madge - there were so many out on the Downs.
I was paddling next to a big, fat seal when out on my kayak in front of The Grand Hotel earlier this week which is, frankly, the last thing I want to see when I'm fishing for bass (which seem to keep their heads down with seals about), but I did manage a smile as I told it to bu**er off.
Wildlife might not appear so abundant this time of year but there is always something to spot - we've compiled a few ideas for you on our blog.
It's still very mild, wind is pretty light and there is still no sign of rain so head out there and enjoy πŸ˜€

The weather forecast for Half Term next week is looking promising. Of course you could stay at home. Try to force feed the kids some board games, whisk them off to see nanna or, more likely, lose them to Tik Tok for 8 hours a day. Instead, maybe you need to consider a stay at our newest apartment - Lock & Quay - in a prime waterside spot in Sovereign Harbour. Think breakfasts on your sunny private terrace, seal-spotting in the harbour and a boat trip to take in Beachy Head? Or beach walks, creamy hot chocolates and movie nights in. https://www.exclusivelyeastbourne.co.uk/holiday-homes/lock-and-quay-sovereign-harbour-lets/

We remain committed leaf kickers when they let us out of the office. Madge, the office dog, is also a fan of zoomies around the woods.

Frisbee is quite a bad idea, too.

The Belle Tout Lighthouse at Beachy Head, East Sussex πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

In 1999 the erosion of the cliffs was threatening the foundations of the building and drastic steps had to be taken to stop it from falling into the sea.

The 850-ton lighthouse was moved using a pioneering system of hydraulic jacks which pushed the building along four steel-topped concrete beams that were constantly lubricated with grease.

We do love a FREE option here at Exclusively Eastbourne - take a peek and see what you fancy sampling in the South Downs National Park

Whether it’s Iron Age forts, Norman castles, historic mills, Second World War defences, Viking burial mounds, or grand stately homes, the South Downs is a landscape oozing with history. The incredible cultural heritage was one of the reasons for the designation of the National Park in 2010 and it....

Mount Caburn, Lewes.

Excavations have revealed a busy and active history, with the suggestion of a yew woodland on the site prior to clearance in the Iron Age.

Today, orchids and other wildflower species can be found on the hill.
