Last night (Tuesday 10th) at 7 pm our volunteer crew were paged to launch the inshore lifeboat "David H" to assist the Police, Coastguard & the Coastguard helicopter with a search for a missing person to the west of Eastbourne.
At 8.30 pm the All-Weather lifeboat "Esme Anderson" was also tasked to join the search operation in moderate seas and with good conditions for a search they were quickly on scene to support the other assets in the area.
Both crews carried out thorough searches using high powered torches and other equipment alongside the Coastguard helicopters search light and image intensifying cameras.
By 11.50 pm both our boats had been stood down and recovered to their stations and the crews headed off home.

The weather outside was frightful! The atmosphere inside was delightful!

Those who turned out during Storm Burt enjoyed their coffee and choice
of the goodies on offer. The RNLI pop up shop had a variety of novelties
on sale too.

The chairman presented the Lifeboat Operations Manager with two very
large bags of high energy snacks for the crew to use on, or after,
shouts as a gesture of thanks from the Berth Holders for the lifeboats'
support during the year.

We have been made aware of a substantial cliff fall at Birling Gap early on Tuesday evening.

Cliff erosion is a natural process and part of the evolution of the coastline and as well as the risk to those walking on top of the cliffs, it can also present dangers to those on the beach below. The cliffs contain many overhangs and cracks that visitors may not be able to see and the unstable chalk can fall at any time with absolutely no warning.

We encourage people to continue to visit the area safely. We will be stepping up our inspections in light of the cliff fall.

The Boat jumble will now be held in the Main Carpark, 10am - 1pm tomorrow.
