30 years of taking people sailing
Our first charter boat was built in the mountains of Ibiza by Richard in 1988. Richard lived aboard, earning a good living taking people to visit the cave dwelling artists of Tagomago.
Following that there was 'Griffin', a 40 foot race boat bought in 1993 with a particularly generous tip from the boss of a megayacht. Sponsored by the port of Sta Eulalia in Ibiza, 'Griffin' taught many islanders, including her skipper, the art of yacht racing.
By 1998 Richard was ready to move on and there then appeared in the harbour the sturdy ocean sailing boat Emily Morgan. With some seed money from Radio 1 and a little bit of help from some friends the boat was bought. Ten years, eight transatlantics and a million pounds worth of charter later the crew of Emily Morgan sailed home to the UK. The skipper needed to put his son into school! It was Cowes week and a generous local lent the crew a racing yacht with no name. Little Emily was hastily scribbled on the stern and another charter yacht was born.
Then came Coral of Cowes, a 100ft schooner built in 1902. Her keel sacrificed in 1940 to make bombs, she arrived in the Caribbean broken and in need of TLC. In 2011, with his son Camilo happily settled in boarding school, Richard took on the challenge. With the help of many good people and a couple of scoundrels this magnificent old vessel was refitted and returned to England for the Royal Yacht Squadron's bicentennial. There she found herself a new caretaker, but not before many young men and girls from countries far and wide had learned to me schoonermen.
Today Team Emily is proud to present it's latest toy. Fast, comfortable and extremely competitive 'Emily of Cowes' is available for charter in the UK, Caribbean and all ports in between.
