Dropped The Kid off at Battle Zone Paintball for his friends birthday party today and had a stroll with my other half around historic South Queensferry just down the road for a couple of hours. Was there a Queens Ferry?! Yep! Established by Queen Margaret in the 11th century to transport pilgrims across the Firth of Forth to North Queensferry to continue their pilgrimage to Dunfermline Abbey and St Andrews.
The Forth Bridge, also known as the Forth Rail Bridge, was completed in 1890 and is Scotland’s greatest man made wonder and was the longest cantilever bridge in the world when it was completed. Sadly, 73 workers lost their lives during the construction of the bridge and they are remembered by the memorial looking out over the bridge from the walkway along the shore.
There is so much history in the village and it’s a must see if you are visiting Edinburgh and there are cool places to grab a coffee and a pastry and wander around taking in these amazing views!

First tour on the the first day of 2025 booked by Laura for her and her partner visiting from Mexico.
The weather was awful in the morning with torrential rain and so we agreed to wait until midday when the rain was supposed to ease off but it then started snowing! We were lucky as it didn’t last too long and we managed a pretty dry tour!
You can see the snow settled on the Pentland Hills in the far distance from Calton Hill and great views to Princes Street.
We worked our way around the usual fantastic sites and got some shots of White Horse Close, the poet Robert Ferguson’s statue outside the Canongate Kirkyard where Adam Smith is laid to rest with views up over the churchyard to the old Royal High School, views to Edinburgh Castle from The Vennel and a walk around the amazing Dean Village with the raging water from all the rain, before dropping these lovely people at Victoria Street for an early dinner at Bertie’s Proper Fish and Chips, Scotland’s biggest fish and chip restaurant located in the former St John’s Church.

Selection of shots from a nice little 4 hour tour with Phillip and his lovely family from Belfast this afternoon. They were so lucky with the weather as the Torchlight Procession tonight has just been cancelled due to the high winds and the rain is on the way🙈

What a crazy weekend!
Worked 12 hours yesterday during storm Bert ferrying people around as a taxi driver.
The snowstorm was bad and all the buses were put off the road due to the terrible road conditions for hours and people were desperate to get home and attend appointments.
The snow eventually stopped and the roads turned to slush only to wake up this morning and the snow has all gone and it’s 8 degrees not minus 1/2!
I couldn’t stop to get pictures as it was so busy apart from this one shot of this amazing building, Fettes College!
Sir William Fettes, Lord Provost of Edinburgh and wealthy businessman, son died of typhoid in 1815 and he was so heartbroken he wanted to leave a legacy to remember him by and gifted a sum of £166,00 to build the school for poor children and orphans.
It was completed in 1870 and is still a boarding school.
James Bond 007 was educated here in the Iain Fleming novels, Tony Blair the former UK prime minister also attended and could it be the inspiration for Hogwarts school in the Harry Potter novels? #007

Cab off the road today in the garage, had to pop into town, walked it both ways along the Union Canal , freezing cold but gorgeously sunny… had to take a few pics!
Edinburgh Castle from St Cuthberts Churchyard, James Young Simpson the pioneer of anaesthesia, views across to the big wheel at the Xmas market with the Scott Monument and Balmoral Hotel, Writers Museum, Wardrop Dragons, Victoria Terrace looking down on Victoria Street, Edinburgh Castle and Cold Town House from Grassmarket and the final stretch along the Union canal in gorgeous light…nice stroll!

Looking down Circus Lane towards St Stephen’s Church on a nice cold family walk today!
Circus Lane was constructed in the early 1800’s as part of the second phase of Edinburgh’s New Town and was built to house the servants, staff and horses of the wealthy residents on Royal Circus who lived in the grand 4/5 storey townhouses at the top of the lane. The prominent Scottish architect William Henry Playfair designed St Stephen’s and he was a major figure in shaping how we see Edinburgh today being the architect for many prominent buildings including The National Monument and Observatory on Calton Hill, the National Gallery and Royal Scottish Academy on The Mound and the amazing University of Edinburgh Old College on South Bridge.

Gorgeous view over Bruntsfield Links ancient golf course to Edinburgh Castle and Barclay Viewforth Church on the left. Rocky was skipping along happily but just had to sit down and admire the views and the rainbow over The Meadows with Arthur’s Seat in the distance!

It was a pleasure to spend the morning with this lovely lady Christine on a little trip out to Midhope Castle, otherwise known as Lallybroch in the Outlander series.
We headed back to Edinburgh via South Queensferry to see the amazing bridges then Cramond to see the island and grab a coffee and then back to Edinburgh for views out over this amazing city from Calton Hill before dropping Christine off for a quick look around town before catching a train down to London.

Last day dog sitting Rocky and we took him for a walk up to Bruntsfield Links where golf has been played since the 15th century, across The Meadows park passing the Prince Albert Memorial Sundial and the Old Royal Infirmary Buildings with the new builds in between and then we came across a very moving memorial gathering for Liam Payne. After a stop to pay our respects we carried on up through George Square with its old police box and Edinburgh University Buildings including the library and Chrystal MacMillan building - (13 June 1872 – 21 September 1937) she was a Suffragist, peace activist, barrister, feminist and the first female science graduate from the University of Edinburgh as well as that institution’s first female honours graduate in mathematics - and then past the old Medical School building and into GreyFriars Kirkyard to get a snap of Rocky next to GreyFriars Bobby’s resting place and then on past the old Elephant House Cafe where JK Rowling used to sit and write her Harry Potter novels. We continued down the Mound passing New College School of Divinity and over Princes Street to visit a couple of shops and then headed on home stopping by the statue of Bum the Dog from San Diego which was twinned with Edinburgh in 1978 and statues of GreyFriars Bobby and Bum were exchanged.
Some great views of Edinburgh Castle can be had from St Cuthbert’s churchyard and then home along the Union Canal.
We all walked 7.5 miles past some of Edinburgh’s amazing history, we are so lucky to be able to call Edinburgh home!
Rocky kept the pace the whole distance of our walk at 7.5 miles and we could barely keep up but he is now zonked out and we are all settled in listening to a storm raging outside which is causing problems with the trains and normal services and blowing everything about in the garden out back!

Today Rocky wanted to go somewhere that wasn’t a beach he said so we headed up to Callander, also known as the gateway to the Highlands and where the Highlands meet the Lowlands, to explore the area a little.
The fantastic thing about living in Edinburgh is that there are so many stunning places to visit just an hour or so from here.
We had lunch in the cafe Mhor Bread, highly recommended, and then a stroll around the back to take in the views of the mountains rising in the distance from The Hill of St. Kessog and then a walk up and down the high street visiting all the shops before driving up a few minutes to the Trossachs Woollen Mill to feed the Highland Coos!
You can buy a bag of food in the shop for £1 and they love a carrot! Loch Lubnaig is just a few minutes drive to take in the views over the loch and so it was a must do…Rocky dipped his toes in as well!
We then drove back down through Callander and up to the Falls of Bracklinn for the fantastic walk up to the falls and to hear the roar of the water gushing down.
Another great day out and a great way to finish off the October school holidays for the family…with the new, but unfortunately only temporary addition, Rocky!

Day two of dog sitting Rocky the Old Tyme Bulldog and he said he wanted to go to the beach again so we headed over to the Kingdom of Fife and the first stop on Elie beach where he did cartwheels of happiness at being allowed to run free!
Next stop the beautiful village of Pittenweem for lunch at the Cocoa Tree Cafe and a walk around the village and along the Fife Coastal Path.
We then headed to St Andrews for a look around the shops before the rain forced us home but not before a few people stopped to admire Rocky and his friendly nature and ask about his breed origins. You could spends days discovering the history in St Andrews but it’s always charming to find little points of interest like the birthplace of the first calotype portrait and the lovely sculpture of local legend Hamish McHamish, the cool cat about town who was a little nomadic and used to choose who would be blessed to feed him in the local neighbourhood!

Dog sitting Rocky for a few days and took him down for a walk on Portobello beach this morning!
The weather was amazing and we had a great walk along this gorgeous beach and hip neighbourhood.
It’s just a 10 minute drive from the city centre so if you do come to Edinburgh hop in a cab and enjoy the views along the second best Uk coastal town as recently voted in a poll by JoJo Maman Bébé who also ranked Edinburgh as the best family-friendly UK city!
Walk along the promenade and grab a Civerinos Slice of pizza and an ice cream or a coffee and cake and chill out and enjoy these stunning views! I took a tour party down here last week and they were blown away and said it was the highlight of their visit to Edinburgh!

Only realised the Northern Lights were right above the house while we were all curled up cosy on the sofa when the Whattsapp Street Group suddenly came alive with photos posted by our lovely neighbours!
We shot out there and were lucky to see these amazing colours!

Nice little trip out to North Berwick today dropping a lovely couple over from the States, in Edinburgh for a wedding, who just wanted to see a gorgeous little seaside town for the lady, Lisa’s birthday! Had to wait and bring them back into town and couldn’t resist a stroll. Robert Louis Stevenson used to spend his childhood holidays here and gained inspiration for his novels from the area. Bass Rock sits out just offshore and is home to 75,000 Gannets, the largest colony in the world! The Watcher statue, created by Scottish artist Kenny Hunter, is a life-sized male figure cast in bronze, dressed in outdoor wear, typical of a bird watcher and he is gazing out to the Rock. When they migrate south over the winter Bass Rock turns grey again, it’s only white because of the birds!
If you ever visit Edinburgh and fancy a trip out here let me know?..it’s less than an hours drive!

It was a pleasure to tour with Julie from Florida last week, a lovely lady planning a solo trip all over Scotland over the next few days!
She was so lucky with the weather as well because the weather 2 days later was awful with the Haar, sea mist, descending on us and wiping out the incredible views🙈

It was a privilege to show these lovely sisters Cathy and Harriet, and her daughter, around Edinburgh on a 4 hour tour yesterday!
They totally got how special Edinburgh is with all its history as well as the cool neighbourhoods such as Marchmont, Bruntsfield and Stockbridge which are just a few minutes drive from the hustle and bustle of the Royal Mile.
We started on Calton Hill and did the usual stops including Greyfriars Kirkyard to see Bobby’s resting place and the steel mort safes that were used to cover the graves to stop the grave robbers stealing the bodies to sell to the Medical School across the road in the early 1800’s! Views from The Vennel towards the castle were great and the cakes at La Barantine on Victoria Street looked so tasty that the ladies just had to stop and sample some! The sisters were trying to trace Scottish ancestors at St Cuthberts Churchyard and had a list of surnames memorised and when they actually found a potential ancestor it was quite emotional! Bum the Dog, gifted to Edinburgh from San Diego as the two cities are twinned and views to the Castle were an added bonus!!

Fantastic Speyside Whisky tour with brothers Igor and Luis and their wives, also sisters!….and friends from Merida, Yuctan, Mexico.
A 6.30am start and back to Edinburgh by 10.30pm the same night is a long day but worth it for real whisky fans! The group had lots of chances to sample the golden nectar!
We visited the Glenallachie, Glenfarclas, Glenfiddich, Glenliviet, Cardhu and Macallan distilleries and the two brothers even had the honour of bottling their own whisky at Glenfiddich and signing the book!
These absolutely lovely people were a pleasure to spend the day with and to see how much they enjoyed sampling the different blends at each distillery!
