Update: The Playfair Walkway is now open!

Thank you all for your feedback regarding the re-opening of the Playfair Steps. We're pleased to say the Playfair Walkway has been opened earlier than planned, with full access now available to the Mound Precinct

We are so excited to share that the Playfair Steps are now open, allowing access from Market Street to East Princes Street Gardens. They will open and close daily in line with the opening hours of Princes Street Gardens throughout the Fringe Festival.

We are working closely with Edinburgh Council to re-open the Playfair walkway connecting to the Mound Precinct following the end of the Fringe Festival.

The Playfair Steps were closed for health and safety reasons while construction work was taking place on the new Scottish galleries at the National, which will open to the public on 30 September!
