Artlink Edinburgh & the Lothians

Artlink Edinburgh & the Lothians We bring people together to explore possibilities, using art as a catalyst to spark new ideas.

Artlink believes participation in the arts has an important role to play in realising personal and social change. Our aim is to increase opportunities to take part in the arts for those who experience disadvantage or disability in the East of Scotland. We offer practical support so people can get involved, and also work with venues to increase opportunities to enjoy the arts. Artlink establishes partnerships with artists, venues and organisations to help transform lives.

The Arts Access Vintage Club had an educational and informative tour of the Scottish Parliament this week. We learnt about the origins of the Scottish Government, how Parliament functions as a place of work, as well as the building itself and all its architectural quirks. Thanks to Nataly & Adrian for taking us round!

Images from Viva Boghall 24, an event celebrating progress on the new Community Garden at Boghall Parish Church. Visitors were able to see how much work has been put in by the local community in developing a warm and welcoming space where we bring people, music and creative workshops together. We were also able to show a selection of projects we’ve been working on, from a bespoke hammock to tufting pieces, embroidered information panels, the redevelopment of planting and growing spaces, all accompanied by delicious food and soothing music. A huge thanks to everyone involved in creating such a special day, and keep an eye on our progress on the Leylines West Lothian project website: https://leylineswestlothian.org

Thanks to MSPs Fiona Hyslop MSP and Kirsteen Sullivan for Bathgate and Linlithgow for coming along to support our efforts.

Great day introducing the community growing space and showing off some of our creative skills!

Come help us celebrate progress on the new Community Garden at Boghall Parish Church this Saturday the 14th of September from 12-4pm for Viva Boghall 24. You’ll be able to see some of the artworks we’ve been working on as well as hear our future plans for the community space.

Join us in tree planting and apple pressing while enjoying some home baking and food. The day will end with a music recital performed by local musicians.

The church is located at 60 Elizabeth Drive, Boghall, Bathgate, EH48 1SJ.

The sun gods were certainly smiling on us for the Snail’s Pace Parade at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital! With chants of “All hail the snail!” our happy gang of snails, fruits and veggies made its way around the hospital grounds, stopping en route to throw seed balls into the wildflower meadow, reciting poems and jokes plus enjoying musical accompaniment on fiddle and trumpet (we also sang Happy Birthday to flagbearer and Glasshouses artist Laura Lees). Ending up at the Glasshouses, we enjoyed soothing sounds from George T and delicious scones from Preachers Patisserie (our favourite local bakery near the Artlink office!).

Thanks to our amazing staff Friends of the Glasshouses - Artlink, volunteers and patients for all their hard work, and see you next year for yet more uplifting community arts-based activity.

We’ll leave the last words to writer Tessa Berring:

“Art is gentle, urgent and human. Art gives people things to choose from, things to touch and nurture. Art creates a time where the focus can be softness - the simplicity of a splash of colour, the excitement of unfolding an idea.”
