A tiny area of Edinburgh but with such a huge amount of history, and its very own loch!

From the little Duddingston Kirk, which will celebrate its 900th birthday next year and has its very own anti-grave robbing tower. To the reputedly oldest pub in Scotland from 1360, the Sheep Heid Inn and slightly newer house that in 1745 Bonnie Prince Charlie held his war council during the Jacobite uprising. And all in a 5 minute walk.

Doune Castle looking stunning in the sun. As well as a great historical visit, it's been used as an iconic filming location many times.

What a great adventure white water rafting yesterday with The weather was perfect and Lou was a fantastic rafting guide.

It certainly wasn't a gentle meander down the river, however only looking at the photos do I realise quite how close we were to tipping out, especially on the last rapid 😬

A few more snaps from our Northumberland trip earlier this week. The tides were on our side so we got across the causeway to the Holy Island. Visited Lindesfarne Priory where St Aidan came from Iona in 635AD to establish the monastery. Mind blowing history 🤯

As well as amazing whisky, they also have amazing surroundings. It's well worth taking the time for a wee bit of fresh air to explore the countryside when visiting the distillery.

The beautiful Corran Lighthouse. I love taking the wee car ferry across Loch Linnhe to the lighthouse and then driving up the west side of the loch. Gutted to hear that the ferry crossing and been suspended for the next few weeks due to technical issues.

This little chapel is all that remains of the once huge friary in St. Andrews, which was built from the early 1500s. The friars were very involved with St Andrews University and 25 books from the friars library still survive. See the next photo for a depiction of how large the friary would have been (courtesy of Historic Scotland)

Almost at the end of our Californian adventure. We've loved exploring the LA, Santa Monica and Venice Beach areas over the last few days. We finished off with a surf lesson in very 'Scottish' weather of rain and hail!! I think it's nature's way of acclimatising us for heading home. Back to touring beautiful Scotland next week 😍

Walking a section of The John Muir Way on a wintery day, with a wee detour into Newhailes House Estate.

The Way runs for 134 miles from his birthplace of Dunbar on the east coast to Helensburgh on the west coast. Muir left Dunbar at the age of 11 to go to the US and became fondly known as The Father of the National Parks.
