For visitors planning to go to Balmoral Castle.

If you are planning to visit Balmoral during April or May, please be aware that the front of the castle is undergoing important maintenance, and scaffolding will be in place.

The Balmoral Works Department is re-pointing the castle to protect it from rain and snow. This technique is used to fill the gaps between stones or bricks in construction with lime mortar.

Due to the nature of lime mortar setting, the castle maintenance can only take place during the Spring and Summer seasons, owing to the temperatures and the challenges of being 1,000 feet above sea level.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR TRAVELLERS TO THE UK

Do you know about the new UK Electronic Travel Authorisation?

It's an online requirement for visitors from certain visa-exempt countries, including the United States, who need to apply for permission to travel to the UK before arriving, essentially a digital pre-clearance process for short-term stays like tourism or business trips; it becomes mandatory for most eligible travelers to the UK on January 8, 2025.

Who needs it: Travelers from countries that usually don't require a visa to visit the UK.

How to apply: Apply online through the UK government website, providing passport details and travel information.

Cost: An ETA currently costs £10.

Validity: An ETA is usually valid for multiple entries within a two-year period or until your passport expires, whichever comes first.

There are a number of scam sites claiming to supply these but the only valid place to get one is via the UK Government website see the link below.

Please don't get caught out - we are seeing reports online of people paying out large amounts of money on scam sites.

Après avoir visité les Highlands en 2022 en mini bus , nous avons choisi une petite citadine pour découvrir Édimbourg. Merci à Celtic Legend , nous avions demandé une voiture manuelle, nous avons eu une automatique pratiquement neuve . Le personnel de l' agence de l aéroport est toujours aussi professionnel. Pas de perte de temps, on arrive les papiers sont prêts, la voiture aussi . Au retour, vérification de l' état du véhicule sans chercher la petite rayure qui n était pas là au départ. Nous reviendrons vers vous lors d' un prochain séjour dans votre magnifique pays.

Needed a reliable hire car company after reading horror reviews with other rentals. Came across Celtic Legend and they looked very good so took a chance. First thing I must say is 5 stars doesn't do them enough justice. Top customer service right from the initial contact right up to the trip and after. Picked car up on 18th and dropped off late on 19th after lovely road trip up to Isle of Skye. Car was wonderful and journey too. Here's a selection below including the rental car. Thanks again looking forward to doing it again. I know who to recommend and use.

Our family had a terrific two week trip in Scotland and I’m very glad we rented from Celtic Legend. Your correspondence and service were cordial, efficient and without pressure of any kind and I think your prices are very fair. Next time I need a vehicle in Scotland, you’ll be contacted!

Our Skoda estate wagon worked well for the five of us, each with a carry-on, a backpack and assorted packages that we acquired along the way.

From Rosslyn Chapel, Edinburgh and Leith to the Fife Coast and St. Andrews, up through Pitlochry, Inverness, Wick, to the Orkneys, down to Loch Ness, Fort William, and Onich, through Glen Coe, Loch Lomond, the Clyde coast, Paisley, Gourock, Largs, Millport and ending with the Falkirk Wheel and the Kelpies, we never spent more than an hour and a half driving without a stop and came away with 1,000 miles of wonderful memories.

We booked flights and car months in advance, wore layers, laundered in the Air BnB’s, never needed cash, and highly recommend Cafe 82 in Drumnadrochit along Loch Ness as well as the Drovers Inn en route to Loch Lomond and the Haylie Hotel restaurant in Largs.
