Alexander I, so the story goes, was storm bound on Inchcolm & he and some of his courtiers took shelter with a hermit. On arriving safely in Fife he vowed to build a monastery on the island. The small stone building located to the west of the abbey is possibly one of the hermits cells. The building has been restored. The Forth Road Bridge, one of the world’s most significant long-span suspension bridges, celebrates its 60th birthday on September 4 and Forth Boat Tours – Edinburgh’s largest, family owned, award-winning boating attraction – will take visitors for up-close views of this iconic bridge on our Three Bridges Cruise.

The Forth Road Bridge has been offering ‘Guid Passage’ since opening on September 4, 1964. With a main span of 1,006 meters between the two 156-meter-tall towers, the structure is more than 2.5 km long. The bridge is so vast that it’s difficult to comprehend the sheer scale of the engineering challenge whilst crossing the bridge.

The best views are of the Road Bridge are available from the Firth of Forth, where the scale of the undertaking becomes apparent.

Bolly hell! Wow!

We were delighted to host the cast and crew of the much anticipated Bollywood blockbuster Son of Saardar 2, a sequel to the original 2012 film. It features some of India’s biggest stars including Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt. The movie has been filming for 50 days in Scotland after director Vijay Kumar Arora insisted it be shot in and around Edinburgh. The weekend saw the last two days of filming in Edinburgh on board the Forth Belle before the cast and crew fly back to India to complete the movie. It is due for release in 2025.

Following their defeat at the Battle of Kinghorn tradition has it that the Danes paid a large sum in gold to have their dead buried on the island.
