From castles and clans to archaeology and ancestry, Scotland's cultural heritage is rich and varied, and I'd love to help you experience it. As well as being a Blue Badge guide, I have a PhD in Scottish history and a background in higher education, historical research and cultural heritage. So, whether you're interested in ancient archaeology, Wallace and Bruce, kings and queens, religious history

/ Reformation, witches, Covenanters, Jacobites, the Enlightenment, industrial heritage or many of the other fascinating aspects of Scottish history, I'm in a pretty decent position to (at least try to!) answer your questions. Along the way, we can uncover so much more that Scotland has to offer: we can explore quirky customs, ceremonies, folklore and superstitions; feast on superb Scottish produce; embark on a whisky or gin trail; spot spectacular wildlife; bask in breathtaking scenery; visit film and literary locations (yes - definitely Outlander!); and photograph iconic landscapes, buildings and architecture. Allow me to help you make the most of your trip. :-)

Castle Lachlan, which dates to the 15th century, sits on the lesser-visited eastern side of Loch Fyne, on the Cowal Peninsula. Clan MacLachan fought on the side of the Jacobites in the ‘45, so in the aftermath of Culloden the castle was destroyed on the orders of the Duke of Cumberland. Not a soul around today!

Dryburgh Abbey on Armistice Day. Burial place of both Earl and Lady Haig, and the location of the local war memorial. Being here at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month felt quite poignant.

I always love the historic fishing villages of the East Neuk of Fife but yesterday’s crisp autumn light made our wander around Crail and Pittenweem a real treat. The boats pictured here were registered in Ullapool, Kirkwall and Oban 🫶🏼🍂 🍁🛥️

From creepy dolls and jewellery made from deer teeth (🥴), to the gorgeous autumnal colours, Atholl Estates and Blair Castle was spectacular today. Everything you could possibly want from a Scottish castle.

Rounding off this fabulous tour were visits to the Butt of Lewis, the Port of Ness and then the Museum Nan Eilean, which is home to six of the famous Lewis Chessmen.
