Happy Samhain from Scotland. ( Pronounced Sow-wen )
As autumn descends and the nights grow colder, the ancient festival of Samhain approaches, celebrated from October 31st to November 1st.
At this time, the veil between the mortal realm and the world of spirits is thinnest, allowing for the return of those from the 'Otherworld'.
The visitors from beyond the veil are known to be unpredictable and mischievous, playing tricks on those who cross their path.
Leaving offerings, often small portions of food or drink, became a ritual to ensure the fairies were appeased and their tricks kept at bay.
This tradition reflects the reverence—and healthy caution—that people held toward these otherworldly beings, whose influence was especially potent during this liminal time.
Our wonderful folklore and ancient beliefs are intertwined with our modern lives here in Scotland, and you don't have to delve too deep to find evidence of this.
Happy Halloween to you all, and have a wonderful time celebrating an ancient tradition wherever you are in the world.
Have a Spooky & spiritual Samhain 🙂
