Brian was the nearest thing to having my dad and my uncle Joe beside me at all times ,he knew them when my family first came to Elgin and staying at Mckonichies yard behind The Northren Chip shop
The Travllers all had there wagons and horses there before they took houses in the Town my folk moved up to Lady Lane , Brian told me How he met in with Joe and bought a Bantam c**k of him , never lasted long as the Neighbours had a say to it , one fir the pot I suppose , Brian and Joe would juke of School and go searching for pigeons often out as far Spinie Castle got a few ‘.scrags’ he would say . Best fun was learning to swim in the river Lossie round at morriston A part called The sannies near the little Brig , Thejy would often Swim with George Cuthber Stewart
“ The Da**ie “ as he was know who lived on lady lane , he would swim daily in the river just tied a large hanky round his privates and straight in , light a fire to dry off and sit and listen to the gentleman’s stories They would also pick a few Dandelions for him he would pull the heads off and suck the stalk full of iron he told them also fish for eels and sell them Mr Stewart , when time for home a carrot or a neep out the park always came in handy for a meal at some point , the times ,hrs and miles we shared together I’m truly great full for , He knew a lot but was alway keen to learn more ,
