Mission Statement

Window to the Womb is dedicated to providing high-quality, efficient, and compassionate care to all our clients and their families through the safe and effective use of ultrasound imaging technology. Our Vision

- To provide clients with easily accessible, high-quality 2D, 3D, 4D, and in selected clinics, HD images using ultrasound technology in a caring and professional manner.

- To enhance our customers' experience by providing a homely, welcoming, safe, and comfortable environment.
- To promote excellence in 2D, 3D, and 4D imaging services by ensuring accuracy, efficiency, compassion, and professional integrity. Our Values

We are committed to:

Focus: Our primary focus is on client care and comfort, delivered in a professional and ethical manner. Dignity: Treating all our customers with respect and dignity. Integrity: Ensuring all our clients are treated honestly, fairly, and safely. Privacy: Maintaining confidentiality for all our customers at all times. Diversity: Recognising, respecting, and actively supporting individual differences through our work practices and protocols. Safety: Meeting all health and safety obligations within our establishment. Staff: Ensuring all our sonographers meet high standards in specialising in well-being, gender, and 4D pregnancy scans. Ultrasound Scanning

Ultrasound uses very high-frequency sound waves, beyond the perception of the human ear, so your baby will not be aware of the scan. 3D and 4D ultrasound use the same technology as hospital 2D ultrasound scanning.

2D Ultrasound: Provides imaging in two dimensions, used for diagnostic examinations.
3D Ultrasound: Offers three-dimensional still images.
4D Ultrasound: Adds the fourth dimension, showing real-time movement of your baby in the womb. We are privileged to offer you and your family a unique and realistic first look at your baby with our 3D/4D ultrasound baby scans. Just as safe as traditional 2D scans, our 3D/4D/HD ultrasound scans, combined with our years of experience, trained team, and advanced equipment, let you get up close and personal with your unborn baby. From a yawn to a stretch, these sessions provide a realistic introduction to your baby in their protected world.

4D Ultrasound Fact Sheet

4D technology uses sound waves beyond human hearing, ensuring your baby is unaware of the scan. For clear imaging, a pool of amniotic fluid around the baby’s face is needed. The best 4D images are obtained when the baby is in a face-up position. Images can be affected by factors like the umbilical cord, hands, feet, or the baby's position against the womb or placenta. To improve image clarity, we may ask you to roll onto your side or take a walk to encourage the baby to move. Our policy is to do our best on the day, which sometimes means scans may overrun. Our clinic offers pregnancy scans at all gestations from 6 to 40 weeks, and all our sonographers are fully trained in clinical and diagnostic ultrasound. Every scan begins with a baby well-being check. If any potential issues are detected, we will explain them fully and communicate with your midwife with your permission. HD Ultrasound

HD ultrasound, available in selected clinics, uses the latest technology for high-definition imaging. Our Scanning Machines

Our ultrasound scanner is a powerful computer that interprets reflected high-frequency sound waves into 3D pictures and adds the fourth dimension to give real-time moving images. HD stands for High Definition. Safety

We prioritise the safety of you and your baby, adopting the A.L.A.R.A (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) protocol. This means our scanners are set at the lowest levels necessary to obtain great images. We also follow BMUS (British Medical Ultrasound Society) guidelines for non-diagnostic, bonding scans, and do not scan before 16 weeks. firstScan

first Scan offers private ultrasound services across the UK, specialising in women's health scans. With over 50 clinics nationwide, First Scan ensures precise and prompt results using cutting-edge technology and experienced healthcare professionals. All clinics are CQC registered, ensuring high-quality and safe healthcare services. For more information, visit www.firstscan.co.uk

What exactly does 'Posterior Placenta' mean, and how does it affect your pregnancy? Let's explore! ⚕️

🟢What is a Posterior Placenta?

The term "posterior" refers to the location of the placenta in your uterus. Specifically, a posterior placenta means that the placenta is attached to the back wall of your uterus, which is closest to your spine. This is a common and normal placement for the placenta, and it typically doesn't present any issues for most pregnancies.

🟢Benefits of a Posterior Placenta:

Easier Fetal Movement Detection: With a posterior placenta, you may feel your baby's movements earlier and more distinctly. The placenta isn't acting as a cushion between your baby and your belly, making those little kicks and flips more noticeable!

Natural Labor Positioning: A posterior placenta is generally considered favourable for labour. It doesn't interfere with the baby's positioning as they prepare to move into the birth canal, potentially leading to a smoother delivery process.

After the loss of a baby during pregnancy or infancy, the innocence of pregnancy is gone. A subsequent pregnancy is a tightrope walk between joy and grief, hope and fear 🤍

🌈A rainbow baby is loved and hoped for, and yet, after loss, parents know there are no guarantees. While a rainbow baby will never replace a baby who died, they deserve to be celebrated and to honour the family’s journey, never forgetting their precious baby who died.

This is why we recognise National Rainbow Baby Day on August 22nd each year: to celebrate the rainbow babies, remember the babies who came before them, and honour each parents’ journey 🩷

⭐️The placenta is a remarkable organ that develops in your uterus during pregnancy.

Its primary job is to provide oxygen and nutrients to your growing baby via the umbilical cord, while also removing waste products from the baby's blood. It's a crucial part of your pregnancy, acting as the lifeline between you and your baby.

Key Functions of the Placenta:
✅️Nutrient Transfer: Supplies your baby with vital nutrients like vitamins, minerals, and glucose.
✅️Oxygen Exchange: Transfers oxygen from your bloodstream to your baby.
Waste Removal: Takes away carbon dioxide and waste products from your baby.
✅️Hormone Production: Produces hormones like progesterone and estrogen to support your pregnancy.
✅️Protection: Acts as a barrier to some harmful substances

Have you heard of GBS (Group B Strep)?

GBS is a common bacterium (bug) which is carried in the va**na and re**um.

GBS is not a sexually transmitted disease and most women carrying GBS will have no symptoms. Carrying GBS is not harmful to you but it can affect your baby around the time of birth.

Testing is sometimes offered as part of antenatal care, however we can provide testing kits which can be taken away and the test conducted at home, with the kit posted off to our UK laboratory and results e-mailed to you within 5 working days.

This service can provide peace of mind before babies delivery, if needed antibiotics can then be provided by your healthcare provider prior to birth✨️

📈About 1 in 4 pregnant women "carry" or are "colonized" with group B strep (GBS)

There are three types of perinatal GBS disease, each with their own prevention challenges:
⚪️ Prenatal-onset GBS disease (before birth)
⚪️ Early-onset GBS disease (birth through the first 6 days of life)
⚪️Late-onset GBS disease (7 days of age through usually 3 months of age)

Pregnant women can be tested for GBS with a va**nal/rectal swab test during the 36th or 37th week.

You can pick up a GBS test from our clinic and carry out the test in the comfort of your own home, pop it in the post to our UK laboratory with results back to you within 5 working days.
