The Old Dairy & The Old Stables are situated down a long quiet drive on our rural farm in the heart of Norfolk's countryside. High House Farm is situated in the quiet Norfolk village of Cranworth which is an ancient settlement mentioned in the Doomsday Book. We are conveniently located right in the heart of Norfolk. With plenty to do and see in every direction, you really will be spoilt for choice

when it comes to selecting what to do next...

Thetford Forest, with its forest trails, dog walks and horse rides, and of course, the opportunity to enjoy nature and the local wildlife. For the more adventurous Go Ape in Thetford Forest High Lodge where you can be brave and attempt the tree top adventure, hire bikes or Segways and cycle through this lovely area. The Norfolk Broads are also within reach for a day trip and you can hire a launch or join a charter and explore along with a guide. For those seeking more coastal pursuits, head to Holkham with its beach that goes on for miles and excellent for horse riding, visit the grey seals at Horsey Gap or try fish and chips in Wells-next-the-Sea with its narrow gauge railway and picturesque quay. Try and squeeze in a visit to the medieval city of Norwich, with its proud Norman castle, numerous museums and great places to shop and eat, you won’t be disappointed. There are some great horse riding opportunities around too and for horse owners who wish to take their horse with them on holiday, there is also a livery at High House Farm where you can bring your horse along too (at cost, subject to availability). There are numerous National Trust properties and stately homes, great walks and cycle paths, and bird and wildlife watching opportunities, you’ll see why Norfolk is so popular. Shop 2½ miles, pub and restaurant 3½ miles.

The Greasy Pole, Blakeney 🫧

Blakeney’s annual greasy pole challenge will be held on Tuesday 8th August in 2023.

Part of the Blakeney Sailing Regatta, the greasy pole dates back well over a hundred years to 1873 when the prize for winning was a hog.

Competitors run or walk along a heavily-greased 30ft-long telegraph pole, which is suspended over the seawater, and try to reach its tip while still standing, before plunging into the water at the pole’s far end. Anyone aged 12 or older was eligible to take part and some 50 men, women and children had tackled the pole, with about one in five successfully reaching the end on their feet.

Although part of Blakeney Regatta festivities, the greasy pole event was always held in the evening and, for safety reasons, when the tide was a minimum of 8.4m to 8.6m high for this reason dates vary from year-to-year.

These are provisional for Blakeney’s annual greasy pole challenge in 2023.
